Fundamental Concepts - E pluribus unum [Weirddave]

Last week a waste of human skin with the unlikely named of Dylann Storm Roof walked into an historically black church in SC and opened fire. When he was finished 9 people were dead. While many things are still unclear about the atrocity, it does seem pretty clear that Roof's primary motivation was racial hate. Predictable, the left has reacted with reasoned calls not to overreact to the actions of one lone lunatic, reminding us that we must remember that Roof is representative of no one except Roof.

Wait, what am I saying? Roof isn't Muslim. No, the left immediately went into full hue and cry demanding that all white folks must answer for Roof's cowardly act. None of this is new, the left always goes back, like a dog returns to his vomit, to identity politics. Group A, Group B, fight, fight fight. It's a long, boring, endless tale of persecution and victims, over and over again ad nauseam . It seems to be all they have, it seems to be all they know, and they stick to it even when they look foolish as they do when a man who attacks an IRS office turns out to be left wing, not right. Or when a mass murder turns out to have a lot in common with Che, not Cruz. You'd think they'd learn, but they never seem to, so the question becomes why.

Why? Why does the left see everything through the lens of identity politics? The simple (and correct) answer is Critical Theory. Critical Theory is the intellectual bible that guides the left, and it demands that people be broken up into smaller and smaller groups that are then pitted against each other and, more importantly, against the dominant culture. Pitting them against each other keeps any one group from getting too strong and dominating the others. Pitting them all against the dominant culture forces it to defend in many directions at once, preventing it from marshaling it's resources against any one threat. (think of how a group of hyenas drives off a lion. It's exactly the same).

That's the correct answer, but why is it the correct answer? To figure that out you have to dig just a bit deeper.

The object of critical theory is to destroy modern western civilization as we know it. Critical theory was designed to eliminate free markets, to obliterate free people and to eviscerate free will. The endgame is to destroy all of that so that it can be replaced with a perfect collectivist Utopia (coming soon to a gulag near you). The exact form the Utopia will take is a little fuzzy (it always is), but critical theory doesn't care about that. Critical theory is Gozer. The Traveller. The Destructor. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii, the Traveller came as a large and moving Torb! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants, they chose a new form for him - that of a giant Sloar! Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day, I can tell you!

*AHEM*! Sorry, where was I? Oh yes, critical theory, the Destructor. Why is it that identity politics is so destructive to America as we know it?

Here's a fact: Human beings are tribal by nature. Always have been, always will be. That's never going to change. Families, clans, tribes, organized that way to maximize success in conflict with other families, clans and tribes. You can build bigger and bigger groups - kingdoms, states, nations – but mankind is built to recognize a hierarchy of loyalty. Traditionally, most nations are fairly homogenous because of this. There are two exceptions. Empires forged through conquest, like Rome, and voluntary associations like the United States. Empires hold their peoples together through force until they are too weak to do so; where upon they disintegrate, rapidly and violently. The best modern example of this is Yugoslavia. Established in 1918 out of some of the remains of the defunct Austro-Hungarian Empire, it remained a relatively coherent, mostly unified entity until the end of the cold war when the outside forces that had been enforcing equilibrium vanished, and Yugoslavia disintegrated into its component pieces.

A pluralistic Republic like the United States, on the other hand, is a voluntary association, not a coerced one. In order to prevent tribal loyalties from rendering it asunder, it demands of it's citizens a concept: E pluribus unum, Latin for “Out of many, one”. When you come here, you swear a new primary allegiance to the American ideal that supersedes all previous loyalties. You're not asked to abandon your previous loyalties, just prioritize them properly. You can have plenty of rivalries beneath the banner of “American”, but American trumps them all. Two examples of how this works on two different levels.

Example 1: Metropolis has many distinct neighborhoods. On the south side, a vibrant and active Greek community thrives in Greektown, which is right next to Little Italy. The residents of the neighborhoods coexist uneasily, the religious conflict of Greek Orthodox vs Roman Catholic has been going on for a millennium, plus the youths always want to fight and everybody knows that moussaka is/isn't better/worst than lasagna. Suddenly, one night, a huge fire breaks out at a warehouse located more or less on the line between the two communities. The Italian home fire brigade springs into action, mobilizing trucks and men who race to the scene of the disaster. The Greeks react. Who do those malakas think they are, showing us up? Men rush from all over Greektown to fight the fire. Once the fire is out, everybody retires to the American Legion hall where ouzo and amaretto are served and the mutual toasts ring out all night long.

Example 2: An evil and conniving Steelers fan slinks into M&T Stadium with a dastardly plan to cheer for the yellow and black against the good guys. A brave and pious Ravens fan recognizes this interloper for the lowly form of life that he is and confronts him. Fists are clenched, teeth are bared, it seems that our hero is going to be forced to thrash the uncouth Steelers brute after all. At that moment, a terrorist bomb goes off next to the stadium, spewing flaming debris across screaming fans in the lower lever.

Steelers Fan “Grab that hose! I'll turn it on”

Ravens Fan “Let me get to the top of the ramp before you let her rip!”

SF unrolls the emergency fire hose while RF drags the nozzle to a vantage point overlooking the carnage.

RF “GO, GO, GO!”

SF, spinning valve, ”ON THE WAY!”

Together the two of them save the lives of some 300 people.

In both examples, the people involved had their own tribal loyalties to groups that were in conflict with each other, but when the shit hit the fan, all of that went away and the larger loyalty took over. Although each belonged to a different sub-tribe, they acted as one for the benefit of all, the larger tribe: America. Osama bin Laden was absolutely counting on America fracturing into tribal factions as a result of 9/11. By all accounts he was stupefied that we didn't, his entire life experience told him that's what would happen. He had no concept of E pluribus unum.

The left fucking hates this. Loathes it. Despises it with all of their being. Why?

Because E pluribus unum, as a concept, is the most powerful check to their dreams of destruction. That's why everything that the left does is designed to discredit and eliminate any concept of national unity. One nation can work together and solve all its problems. The left doesn't want those problems solved, they want the one nation to fail, so that it can be replaced with collectivism (I find it darkly amusing that the left believes that they can spend years fanning the flames to racial and group hatred in order to destroy the existing culture, yet imagine that once they take over to replace it that everybody will just join hands and sing “Kumbaya” for their new Marxist overlords. I find that REAL! FUCKING! FUNNY!)

So now you know the endgame of identity politics. Keep it in mind and don't let them sway you. By all reports, Roof was a not very bright, weak willed coward. He allowed identity politics to consume him, and 9 dead are the result. He's an extreme example, but he is also exactly what the left lusts after: They. Them. You. Hate hate hate. Anger. Destroy. Kill. KILL. KILL!

It's all they've got.
