WOP YOUR WAD ON THE COUNTER!! LODS OF EMONE!! (Gaming Thread)

NEWS

• Unlike Harmonix releasing a stripped down version of Rock Band for the new consoles, Activision is going the opposite direction with Guitar Hero with a whole new guitar and instead of bad clips of you and your band playing, it's full blown FMV of a crowd watching you play. Probably the coolest thing, at least to me, is that Freestyle Games (made the highly under-rated DJ Hero games) is making it as I'm surprised they're still alive

Personally, I kinda like troll/scammer Anita Sarkeesian being in the Time 100 of most influential people.

• The new BattleFront is going to look so damn good on the PC. Don't know if I'm digging the jetpacks (though everyone is going that route) or that it's only going to have 40 people on a map but I'm curious on how gimped the console releases are going to be.

Still skeptical this actually launching well but Slightly Mad is claiming that Project CARS is coming out on May 7th.

• After the mediocrity of 3 and just how bad 4 was, I'm finding myself not caring about Star Ocean 5

• But Square's new iOS/Android game, Last Rankers looks really cool

NPD

Not much out of the ordinary in last month's NPD numbers. The market is down all over the place. Hardware is down 21% due to the price cuts on the XBO compared to March last year. Software is only down 3% though. With no TitanFall nor Infamous 3, it was to be expected.

Console wise, XBO got outsold by about 100K PS4 units (230k vs 335k-ish) and Wii U....lol (80k). 3DS did okay though with the release of the New 3DS getting about a 50K unit bump to about 250k or so.

Sony is just kinda rolling along while not doing a whole lot. Bloodborne did eh in the States with about 375K units sold (1m+ Worldwide with majority being in Europe).

Unless Phil Spencer wows at E3 & Gamescom (not happening), dude either needs to be demoted back to software or just straight up shit canned. Some people just have "it" and he most definitely doesn't have "it". And it's not like MS has confidence in him, they wouldn't have taken Mattrick's Hololens project away from him if they did. And though he's only officially had the title for just under 2 years, he's been head for 3 and there isn't any vision coming from him nor much of anything else.

Nintendo......Iwata still needs to go. Even in a slow month, Wii U only moving about 80k units a month is laughable. And him demoting Reggie and taking over, which though was thought of as a positive move at the time, has lead to an even bigger FUBAR situation than before. Even with a plan to milk their aging fanbase out of money, they still can't get figure out the Amiibo situation which is we're the only region where it's a complete mess.

Though Bloodborne has been good seller so far, Yoshida really has dropped the ball as head of Sony's World Wide studios head has done nothing with a lot of money. His only saving grace is that with the PS4 selling decently so no is noticing in how hard he's dropped the ball. Unless they do something they've never done before by announcing and releasing something in a span of 6 months, this is going to be the third year where they're going into the most important buying quarter with nothing (and no, a remake of the first Ratchet & Clank isn't something). Though exclusives aren't what they once were, when the market is being eaten alive by PC and mobile, you still need something for people to buy.

Stuff I've Been Playing

This week I've been mainly playing the new A-Train on the 3DS that I forgot was coming out. We sadly don't get many of the A-Train games in West. It's a part business part city management sim. Build your train lines and depots to have cities build around the hubs and have your bus lines connect in the cities to build out the commerce aspects of the towns. For the most part it builds out naturally while you do some nudging on getting it up and running. Probably the coolest thing about this version is that with it being on a handheld, the game has had to go back to the 2D isometric game which is where it should be, unlike the series the last 10 years of being low budget 3D. If you like these type games, I'd say it's worth the $30.

New Releases

Not a lot coming out this week.
Killing Floor 2 (PC) - The sequel to the seminal zombie blasting PC game is finally hitting Early Access. If you like horde modes in games, there really isn't one that has done it better than the guys at TripWire. For the most part, it's mostly a new coat of paint with a new level gore. If you want a game with a long shelf life with a ton of new content, this is the game for you. Will run you $30

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China (PC, PS4, XBO) - Before they pulled the season pass to Unity, there were going to be three 2.5D games set in China, India and Russia. This is the first release. Basically this is just a continuation of handheld games which frankly I never found fun but it has been awhile so hopefully they figured out that you need to make more concessions to translating the property to 2D (hope they copy Mark of The Ninja). Each game is going to run you $10 a piece
