Good News: Mitch McConnell Is Playing Hardball
Bad News: It's Over Something You Probably Don't Care Much About
McConnell says he won't allow a vote on Loretta Lynch to be Attorney General unless the Democrats allow a vote on cutting spending, overturning Obama's executive amnesty, human trafficking.
Democrats don't like a provision in the bill that would prohibit funding of abortions which was unanimously agreed to in committee. Apparently Obama will veto this bill if the ban is in it (updated: they won't actually say) and the optics of that are bad so Reid is playing Crypt Keeper, er, gate keeper.
I guess it's nice to see McConnell trying to run the Senate but where was this on DHS/amnesty funding? Human trafficking is an abominable thing and the people who engage in it should rot in jail and then hell but....it's already illegal. People do rot in jail for this under current law. It's not as if without this bill it will suddenly be open season on the young and vulnerable.
But this is where Mitch elects to play this card?
If he'd used it on DHS funding he would have disabused the Democrats they could run the Senate this way the first time they tried it. Gee, it's almost as if he never meant to fight on DHS/amnesty.
It'll be interesting to see who blinks first here. I'm sure we'll be getting the full court "the Republicans are holding the first black woman Attorney General" spiel.
I know where I'm putting my money.
