Patricia Arquette Needs to Check Her Privelege
Her rant last night was pretty embarrassing; even more embarrassing for Meryl Streep, who found herself swept to her feet in a rush of smugness.
Oh look a millionaire princess whooping it up about her oppression.
It didn't help that Jared Leto was on stage with her, looking like a John Lennon impersonator-slash-torso-murderer.
Mollie Hemingway notices the very bad habit progressive peacocks have of shouting about problems which they themselves are very guilty of perpetuating.
The notion that Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez -- literally some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world -- should be cheering on yet another wealthy person about their struggle with low wages is hilarious....
[Y'ou know who does have a wage gap problem? Hollywood[.]
...
Only 9 percent of the top 250 domestic grossing films of 2012 were directed by women, according to a study by The Center for the Study of Women in Television & Film, based at San Diego University. For other behind-the-scenes roles, women make up only 18 percent. And that has only increased 1 percent since 1998!
The same disparity is seen in sales of scripts. Researcher Susana Orozco who went through every single spec script sales from 1991 and 2012 and found that between 1991 and 2000, women wrote 14 percent of spec scripts sold. By the last few years she studied up to 2012, only 9 percent of the scripts sold were written by women!
On this point, Patricia Arquette is now the star of yet another pointless CSI spin off. I'm certain she is a major producer on the show.
So I'm also certain that the show employs equal numbers of men and women in all phases of production and pays them all strictly the same.
Indeed, I wonder why Arquette herself is being paid more than anyone else. Shouldn't everyone on the show, from Arquette down to the continuity editor be paid exactly the same?
Sure they're not doing the same jobs and do not have the same skill nor the same number of years in the business but neither do those men and women sampled to get that bogus "77 cents on the dollar" bullshit stat.
This would all be very annoying if it weren't for the fact that the left is now turning on Arquette, and with some reason. Basically, she called out blacks and gays and demanded that they now support very privileged upper class white women the way very privileged upper class white women had always supported them.
So that's obviously awesome.
