Senior Administration Official: We Pressured Israel Not To Take Any Action Against Iran's Nuke Program, and "Now It's Too Late"
They're actually bragging about this.
Seth Mandel looks beyond the schoolboy taunts ("chickensh*t," "Asperger-y") to find the real meat of yesterday's story.
The Obama administration wanted to brag through its stenographer that the president had protected the Iranian nuclear program from Israel:
I ran this notion by another senior official who deals with the Israel file regularly. This official agreed that Netanyahu is a "chickenshit" on matters related to the comatose peace process, but added that he's also a "coward" on the issue of Iran's nuclear threat. The official said the Obama administration no longer believes that Netanyahu would launch a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities in order to keep the regime in Tehran from building an atomic arsenal. "It's too late for him to do anything. Two, three years ago, this was a possibility. But ultimately he couldn’t bring himself to pull the trigger. It was a combination of our pressure and his own unwillingness to do anything dramatic. Now it's too late."
If Iran goes nuclear, those words will be the perfect description of the Obama administration's fecklessness: "Now it's too late."
Meanwhile, the Administration is of course not interested in finding out which Genius of Diplomacy chose to insult an allied world leader in such personal terms.
This could be due to the fact that the insults are quite calculated and coordinated.
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon traveled to Washington last week expecting to see top Obama administration officials.
Instead, he found himself with a lot of time on his hands.
The White House denied him meetings with Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Adviser Susan Rice. Senior administration officials attributed the snub to numerous negative comments Ya'alon made earlier this year criticizing the administration in general and Kerry in particular
Meanwhile, Israel is protesting Obama's throwing of that beleaguered state "under the bus."
Israel's Economic Minister responded:
Israel is stronger than all of its defamers.
The Prime Minister of Israel is not a private person. He is the leader of the Jewish State and the entire Jewish people. Cursing the prime minister and calling him names is an insult not just to him but to the millions of Israeli citizens and Jews across the globe.
The leader of Syria who slaughtered 150,000 people was not awarded the name "chickenshit". Neither was the leader of Saudi Arabia who stones women and homosexuals or the leader of Iran who murders freedom protestors.
Remember, we were promised that Obama was a man with a "first class temperament." And that his alleged intelligence would allow him to exercise Smart Power and bring peace to the world.
