Quote of the Day
"My boobs are fake, my hair's fake, but what is real is my voice and my heart."
-- Dolly Parton responding to rumors of lip-syncing at the Glastonbury Music Festival.
You can judge for yourself as she sings 'Jolene' here. [Compare it with her 40+ year-old original version. Oh and don't forget about the hit song that no one knows she wrote.]
True random fact: My parents and their friends used to occasionally play cards with Dolly and her husband back in the early 60s. They always spoke highly of them and were happy to see her get her big break in 1967 on the Porter Wagoner show.
He Who Controls the Past Weather Data, Controls the Future
So is or isn't July 1936 the hottest month in the US on record? Well given that NOAA has been caught fiddling with the raw historical record again who knows.
Here's a current example in eastern Kansas. The black temperatures are the raw values and the red temperatures are the NOAA 'adjusted' values. 'Zombie' stations are temperature stations that have been closed for years yet NOAA still estimates temperatures for. Notice anything about the 'adjustments' that NOAA applies? And guess what - NOAA has been 'adjusting' the historical data as well.
Rooting For Injuries Watch: Hillary Clinton vs. Ashley Madison
Heh. It's effective because in Hillary's case it's true and everyone in the country knows it.
Don't Know Much About History
Seem to be the qualifications for becoming Huffington Post's "Senior Political Economy Reporter" as Zach Carter found out after being demolished by Hugh Hewitt on his radio show. Zach literally didn't seem to know anything that happened before the year 2000.
HH: Well, Zach, again, when you read his memoir, come back and we'll talk about that. But what I'm curious to ask you is why do you think Bill Clinton bombed Iraq in 1998? ZC: I'm not really familiar with Bill Clinton bombing Iraq in 1998.
HH: Did you know that he did that?
ZC: No.
Leading Hewitt to lament that Carter was failing even when being graded on the journalist's curve.
Until colliding with Mr. Carter I had never thought to ask if a young journalist who presumed to comment on the war on terror if he or she had ever heard of A.Q. Khan. I assumed...well, there's the rub. I always assume that young journalists would not dare opine on the war without a basic knowledge of the existential threat at its core, and the origins of that threat. Perhaps a college newspaper editorialist would do so, but not a "senior political economy reporter" for a major political outlet like HuffPo.
I was wrong.
Quote of the Day II
I never dreamt, as a schoolboy in the Sixties, that the future contained swarthy men with bloody swords holding severed heads up to the camera.

The Latest Brilliant Idea From the Left
Armed Robber's Family Blames Society, Gun Violence, Video Games For His Killing by a Victim
According to his parents 16-year-old Isiah Haggins was a 'good kid' and they 'just want answers' in his senseless shooting by the trigger-happy store owner he was robbing at gunpoint.
Is Libel Law Dead?
A FL judge ruled against George Zimmerman's libel case against NBC basically arguing that the fact that NBC libeled Zimmerman on a national broadcast (and that Zimmerman had once expressed an opinion about a 2010 police shooting of a black homeless man) essentially made him a public figure and hence not-libel-able. [Is that even a word - well it is now I guess] Oh and the burden of proof is on him to prove that he didn't call Trayvon a 'coon' as NBC claimed.
The 'Nightmare Nanny' May Leave the House by July 4th
A cautionary tale about ever letting someone live in your home (or even just stay the night) if you live in California. They immediately acquire tenant's rights and it takes a minimum of 120 days dotting-the-i's-and crossing-the-t's to get them out. Meanwhile the family has had to put locks on every single door in the house and have someone on guard 24 hours a day to make sure she doesn't set the place on fire or rob them blind.
Oh and would you be surprised to find out that Diane Stretton has pulled this scam dozens of times before and filed so many groundless lawsuits that she's now on the state's vexatious litigant list?

Realistically what exactly could he be hiding up in there - a bonsai bomb?
