Rasmussen: Gingrich Gains On Obama With Independents, Now Only Trailing By Six
That's a dramatic improvement, since he had been trailing by 21.
Three weeks ago, Rasmussen’s poll of likely voters showed Speaker Newt Gingrich trailing President Barack Obama by a whopping 27 percentage points (51 to 24 percent) among independent voters. Now, Rasmussen shows, Obama’s lead over Gingrich has shrunk to just 6 points (41 to 35 percent) among independents. Obama also leads Gingrich by 6 points (44 to 38 percent) among all likely voters.
Ben notes that Newt must be moving into the Not-Romney Next To Rise position, because fanatical Romney supporter Jen Rubin just happens to write a blistering attack on him today.
By the way: Rubin won't say which of these attacks are fed to her by Romney, but by refusing to say, she seems to concede that some of them do. So I'm going to go ahead and assume that this is the story Romney planted today.
And independents, by 50-40, say Obama does not deserve a second term.
Interestingly, in this poll too, the sub-poll of independents tracks the overall poll of Americans perfectly -- in the overall poll of all Americans, the split is also 50% saying Obama doesn't deserve a second term, 40% saying he does.
So independents seem a strong predictor of where the overall country is.
Thanks to Jammie Wearing Fool, which on Monday moved to a new location, and also adopted one of those professional looking magazine-style looks, which, geeze, I really need to do one of these days.
And thanks to Gabe for the Obama poll.
