Now, It's Time For The NHL Winter Classic
Washington Capitals v. Pittsburgh Penguins on NBC.
This is the match up the league wanted because it involves the two best players in the league Alexander Ovechkin of the Caps and Sidney Crosby of the Penns.
As much as it pains me to admit, Crosby is simply the best player in the world right now. He just had a 25 game scoring streak ended and he's the guy every team is trying to stop every night. Yes, he can be a chippy player and a whinny bitch at times but his talent is undeniable. Caps coach Bruce Boudreau gave Crosby a great compliment on the last episode of HBO's 24/7. He told his players, it doesn't matter if you hit him or not, he's simply going to play his game. You can't ruffle his feathers, even if he cries about it later.
Ovechkin on the other hand is a much more emotional player and he's a beast physically. Expect to see him flying around tonight hitting people, especially his 'good friend' Evgeni Malkin.
These two teams played as good a mid-season game as you're ever going to see last week. This should be a great one as well.
Okay...scene looks great. I was worried that playing the game at night would suck. Wrong.
For some reason (MONEY) college football has managed to abdicate New Year's Day and the NHL of all people is going to own it going forward. Not quite sure how that happened.
Random thought...Penguins' third jersey is just awful. On the other hand, Captials throw back looks fantastic.
Dear sports teams: Old school red, white and blue is ALWAYS a winner (see the old New England Patriot uniforms).
