For Congress: Sam Caligiuri, CT-5
Sam Caligiuri is currently a State Senator representing Connecticut's 16th district. From his website:
In 2007, Sam was the only State Senator in any party, to vote against the state budget, arguing that it was wrong for the people of Connecticut because it exceeded the state spending cap and would lead to huge state deficits. Because of Sam’s principled stance against the state budget, newspapers praised him, calling him the “last defender” of the state spending cap and the “last sane man in Hartford.”
Emphasis me.
He previously served as president of the Waterbury Board of Aldermen, briefly becoming acting mayor of Waterbury in 2001 when Mayor Philip Giordano was removed from office.
Caligiuri is an NRCC 'Young Gun,' and has pledged to oppose all tax increases and to fight the implementation of government-controlled health care.
His opponent is (two-term) incumbent Chris Murphy, a Pelosi lapdog (and former Dodd intern) who voted for the bailout, stimulus package, and health care reform bills. A cookie-cutter liberal who also happens to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Wowzers! 'Commerce.' That must mean that he's an expert, right?
Here, I pulled this quote off his site, from the 'Economy' section of the Issues tab:
As our financial system struggles and our housing markets contract, too many jobs have been lost and too many families are teetering on fiscal calamity. At a time when the private markets are not responding, it is essential that the government aggressively address this problem.
When you are exhausted from explaining cause and effect to liberals, there is only FacePalm.
Can Caligiuri win?
Polling results are recently wildly inconsistent. Murphy claims that his internal polling shows him on top by 13 points. But a new independent poll shows Caligiuri up by five. The Murphy camp is vehemently disputing it.
Incidentally, that poll also claims to find that the 5th District is the 'most conservative' district in CT.
Real Clear Politics has Caligiuri at +6 with likely voters.
The results of my own internal poll, conducted deep inside my intestines after ceaselessly talking politics with unsuspecting Democrats for the past two weeks, is that The Wave will be hitting inland Connecticut, and some ordinary, workaday, traditional Democrat voters* are going to take an active and blood-lusty part in it, because they are fed up too.
This is huge.
