Just Curious: Is Obama Going to Tell Us In Six Months That His "Cost-Reducing Reforms" Were Always Meant to Increase Costs, Too?
We already know he didn't mean what he meant when he claimed (and still does claim on his website) that no one -- not a single family in America -- will pay more in taxes (note: "income tax" not specified; taxes, period) than they did in the 90s.
We already know that's false, as he's considering a surtax on the rich that will extract up to 5.4% more from them than they paid in the 90s.
We also all know he's going to raise taxes on the middle class. The MSM knows this as well. It's a wonderment to me they're so quiet about it.
So, now being told that the stimulus was never intended to stimulate, what good is Obama's word regarding his magical cost-decreasing reforms?
How Will the Media Play This Ludicrous Spin? So I asked the cobloggers in email, so I'll ask you guys.
It's obviously embarrassing as hell for Obama to claim this. Note he himself did not claim it; he had Gibbsy do it without cameras rolling -- the spin is so embarrassing that, while they want the media pushing it, they don't want to be tied to it themselves. They definitely don't want Gibbs offering up that soundbite, do they?
It's just as embarrassing for Obama's water-carriers in the media to repeat it.
But what can they do? It is now their boyfriend's official party line. Do they choke on it or down it gamely?
My own prediction is this: They repeat it. Snarky guys like Anderson Cooper give it a little eyeroll, and acknowledge the obvious: This is kinda bad spin.
Then, having acknowledged the obvious, they go on to say: But, as bad as this sounds, when you think about it, it's pretty much true.
See, before you go on to spin so blatantly for Obama you have to first acknowledge you're being spun blatantly by Obama. Spin can only go so far. You have to at least wink in the direction of reality before spinning further into fancy.
So that's my prediction. And yours?
Quote Unquote:
"Then you get the argument, well this is not a stimulus bill, it's a spending bill. What do you think a stimulus is? It’s spending — that's the whole point! No, seriously. That's the point!”
-- Barack Hussein Obama on the first non-stimulus stimulus bill
