Great: Zelaya Returning to Honduras to Lead "Final Battle" -- Civil War -- Against Legitimate Government There
This foreign policy crisis brought to you by the Obama Administration, thanks to a grant from the Soros Foundation.
A top aide to Manuel Zelaya says the ousted president will set up government headquarters inside Honduras, from which he will lead the "final battle" against coup leaders.
Patricia Rodas, foreign minister of Zelaya's toppled government, says Zelaya is en route to Honduras but she did not provide details as to where he plans to set up the alternative seat of government. Zelaya himself will announce it when he deems appropriate.
Rodas spoke Thursday after arriving in the Bolivian capital of La Paz aboard the plane of leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Chavez is an ally of both Chavez and left-leaning Bolivian President Evo Morales.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE.
Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) A top aide of ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya said he was heading back to the country Thursday, while thousands of his supporters blocked roads to demand his return to power.
Note the updated format; we've gone from "Zelaya on his way back" to "Zelaya to lead 'final battle'" in just a few hours. Partly thanks to Obama's cheerleading.
I think maybe Obama should have heeded his own counsel and refrained from "meddling" in the first place.
Question:
Will US troops be deployed to "advise" in the situation?
Before you say "No," remember, Bill Clinton was on the more-pacifist side of things, too, but whenever the left wing blessed an intervention, he was able to put aside his skepticism about American force. See Haiti; see Mogadishu.
I wouldn't think Obama would be so reckless as to do this -- but he keeps proving me wrong at every turn.
AHFF Geoff, again.
