Former Holder Of The Office Of President Elect News Conference Statement »
January 21, 2009
Hope, Change And Cribbing From Bush?
How much did parts of Obama's address yesterday sound like "Stuff Bush Might Have Said"? So much so even John Stewart's writing staff noticed it.
(I tucked the video and the rest of the post below the fold to avoid slowing down the site.)
Thank God the era of Cowboy Rhetoric is over! Of course, actions speak louder than words and as you can see from Gabe's Gitmo thread, things have changed.
And while this isn't the funniest bit in the history off comedy, good for Stewart for at least trying to make fun of Obama. Of all the comedians out there his continued success and relevance depends on being able to make fun of Obama. Letterman, Leno and Kimmile can get by without Obama or political jokes but Stewart has to fill 22 minutes, 5 nights a week doing a show that's all about politics and the day's news. He can't simply skip by the biggest newsmaker of the time. Of course he has to do it while not alienating his audience who love Obama and aren't exactly known for having a sense of humor about their Hope and Change savior, so good luck with that trick Mr. Stewart.
Thanks to neo who pointed this out last night in the 57 State thread and every blog who reminded me of it this morning.
