Gov. Palin at the Budweiser Event Center [Alice H.]
(Thanks once again to Ace for letting me hijack the blog)
Sarah Palin made three appearances in Colorado today. I was fortunate to attend the rally at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, home of the Colorado Eagles hockey team. Northern Colorado is very hockey-oriented, and offered Palin a warm welcome!
After local politicians Don Marostica, Bob Schaeffer, Wayne Allard, and Marilyn Musgrave each spoke, Sarah Palin came out, joined by Todd, Willow, and Piper. Hank Williams Jr. sang the National Anthem, and most of the crowd joined in. He then sang his song, "McCain-Palin Tradition", with Palin looking sort of modestly embarrassed and Todd grinning from ear to ear.
Some highlights of her speech, in a nutshell, not in order (I didn't take notes):
- Sarah started off with a synopsis of her tax-cutting both as mayor of Wasilla and as governor of Alaska.
- Government should spread the opportunities, not the wealth. Sarah thanked Joe the Plumber for doing something that no one in the McCain campaign had been able to do so far, namely, get Obama to show his real economic plan.
- Questioning someone's record and associations is NOT negative campaigning. She named Ayers and Wright. Talked about ACORN but did not name it.
- The McCain economic plan is an almost unilateral spending freeze. Any bill that comes with earmarks will be vetoed.
- As the mother of a soldier in Iraq, she wants someone with military experience as commander in chief.
- A protester started acting out shortly after she started speaking and was escorted out. Sarah replied that the guards should leave the protester there, because maybe the protester would learn something.
- Mentioned special needs families having a voice in the White House, and tied it in to every person being valuable, no matter their age or whether they have been born yet.
I'm sure I'm leaving some details out, so if anyone else was there, please feel free to fill in the details.
My personal observations...
One of Iowahawk's 'I am Joe' signs was being waved:
I tried to track down the guy waving it after the rally, but was unable, so if you're lurking around here, speak up!
Todd, Willow, and Piper all looked incredibly excited to be there (as of course did Sarah, but we expect that from her). They were all genuinely smiling. Piper didn't seem intimidated by the crowd at all, which I think is amazing for a child her age. She was smiling, waving, and signed many many autographs at the end of the speech. I'm guessing in 40 years those are going to be valuable when Piper is running for President.
And I really want Sarah Palin's jacket. I'd probably want her shoes, too, but I couldn't see them at all.
