Democratic Attempt to Make the Election a "Sure Thing" Thwarted Again
Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner can't get a break. Courts just keep insisting that she comply with the federal election laws.
A U.S. District Court judge in Columbus ruled Thursday that Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner must perform verification required by the Help American Vote Act. That includes matching a new registrant's information with information in databases maintained by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the Social Security Administration.
Brunner insisted to the judge that she is checking new registrations as soon as they come in. Curiously, therefore, she immediately appealed the decision to the Sixth Circuit. Huh.
Incidentally, I got my ballot in the mail today. Gonna look at the California Props and some of the local races and then I'll be done with this election. I don't know how many people vote early, but McCain better not be saving the good stuff for the very end. It may be too late to make a difference.
