Portland, ME School District Okays Prescribing Birth Control Pill To 11-Year-Olds Without Parental Permission; NPR Lies On Their Behalf And Claims Permission Is Required
I just saw a guy on FoxNews claiming that permission was permitted, because parents must give permission for students to be treated by the school health care center as a general matter, i.e., you need permission to be treated for cuts, bruises, nausea, etc.
This, he claims, constitutes parental permission, and anyone not comfortable with the pills-for-11-year-olds policy can opt out by simply refusing to have their children treated by the school for any malady.
Why not simply have a special permission for birth control? Because that wouldn't advance the cause of sexualizing ludicrously underaged children.
But watch NPR lie for the district:
School officials in Portland, Maine, voted to make birth control pills available to students at one of the city's middle schools.
The contraceptives would be available to girls in the seventh and eighth grades, with their parents' permission.
The move, sanctioned late Wednesday in a 7-2 vote by the Portland School Committee, follows a spate of pregnancies among middle school girls.
King Middle School will be Maine's first school to have a full range of contraception available, including birth control pills and patches. Condoms have been available at King's health center since 2000.
A school health center will make birth control pills available to girls as young as 11. Prescriptions will be given after a student undergoes a physical exam by a physician or nurse practitioner, according to Lisa Belanger, who oversees Portland's student health centers.
Parents must consent to their children using the school's health center, as most middle school students are ages 11 to 13.
Nevertheless, treatment is confidential under state law. That means students can decide whether to inform their parents about the services they receive.
Again, this is a lie, because a representative of the school district -- a principle, I believe -- just explained that "permission" means permission to be treated for anything, and if you want your kid to get cuts cleaned up, you have to also give permission for birth control. Opt out of it all or or opt into it all.
Girls this age are getting knocked up like crazy in Portland, so whether this is wise I don't know. If they're fucking at age 11, they might as well be on the pill at age 11. Not to be judgmental, but if the kid's a whore, she might as well have the whole whore safety kit.
But it's instructive how the, ahem, self-proclaimed elite in education (hah-hah) and the media (chuckle) team up to deny the public relevant information about the decisions they've made on our behalf.
For the children.
