Coburn Anti-Hippie Amendment... Passes
Will wonders never cease:
The Senate just approved Dr. Coburn’s amendment to redirect money from hippie welfare to children’s health care by a vote of 52-42.
Dr. Coburn’s amendment transferred funding for the Woodstock museum, which was inserted at the requests of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Charles Schumer, to the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant program. The vast majority of Democrats voted against Coburn’s amendment to provide additional funding for children’s health care.
Later this week, the Senate will have an opportunity to delay ALL earmarks within the spending bill until the Health and Human Services secretary certifies that all children in the U.S. have health insurance.
Someone snarks:
From one of the groups should call the Woodstock guy and ask him if he is going to seek a refund from Hillary and Schumer.
A good point.
Here's the thing: Hillary and Schumer earmarked that money to build the Woodstock Smelly Dirty Filthy Hippie Museum of Acid and Gonorrhea as a favor to a cat named Alan Gerry. It was his pet cause. He wanted the museum.
And he was a big donor to Hillary and Schumer.
Does anyone see the problem there?
Gerry's money otherwise would have gone to the museum. He would have built it, properly, on his own dime, not the taxpayers'.
Instead, he gives a lot of money to Hillary and Schumer to help them get reelected.
They in turn direct the government to spend taxpayer money on Gerry's cause -- likely more than he even gave them. But, in any event, effectively paying him back for his donation, with the money for Hillary and Schumer's election campaigns effectively coming straight from taxpayer funds.
Liberals give money to liberal politicians.
Liberal politicians, in turn, direct the government to award them contracts or else pay money on their pet causes.
Liberal politicians pocket the donations. Liberal donors still get all their money back, and more, from the taxpayers.
Everyone wins. Except the taxpayers, of course, who pay double for crap they don't want-- donating to liberal politicians and then having to pay for the pet causes of liberal donors.
Doesn't anyone see a problem with this? This doesn't seem very different from straw donations, which are illegal.
Oh, and: Conservatives -- or fake conservatives -- do this as well. But I don't need to make a stink about that, because I know that's the sort of corruption the MSM is interested in covering, or even over-covering.
Correction: I wrote the donor's name was "Bethel." DrewM corrects me -- Bethel is where the museum is to be erected. This Hot Air piece notes the guy's name is Alan Gerry.
