Media Protection, Kennedy Shield No Longer Seem To Be Working

So far, Kennedy HAS NOT been charged. The congressman released a statement Thursday night saying alcohol was NOT involved.

When's the last time you saw a news organization resort to CAPITALS -- the junior-high joural-blogger's BEST FRIEND -- to make a point?

They're really trying to sell it, aren't they?

I don't remember reports about Dick Cheney's shooting containing disclaimers that he HAS NOT BEEN charged and that he stated that alcohol WAS NOT involved in the mishap.

But the ol' Kennedy magic just ain't what it used to be:

The Capitol Hill Fraternal Order of Police is calling for higher-ups in the department to allow patrol officers to complete their investigation.

The head of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1, Lou Cannon, told 9 News that he’s concerned that Kennedy may have received special treatment and this could be a case where “rank has its privilege.�

Capitol police Officer Greg Baird wrote a letter to acting Chief Christopher McGaffin saying how the investigation was handled calls the department's integrity into question.

Points:

Even though the police were prevented by higher-ups from conducting field sobriety tests, they can still testify as to their expert opinion on Kennedy's intoxication at trial.

Cover-ups only work if people cooperate. If they don't-- as they're not, here -- it's a major, major problem. The lower-level cops are no longer in danger of losing their jobs. Now their higher-ups are in great danger of just that.

As a commenter snarked, we perhaps should give Kennedy a break. After all, the MSM is already hounding him over the $68,000 he took from Jack Abramoff and refused to give back.
