NYT's Public Editor Continues Being a Dick
And that's just jake by me.
He slams TV critic Alessandra Staley for incorrectly reporting that Geraldo Rivera "nudged" military personnel out of the way in order to help a wheelchair bound woman down some stairs. The tape simply shows no "nudge" at all; top Times honcho Bill Keller seems to be claiming that he "metaphorically nudged" people aside through grandstanding, and that's good enough to be reported as a literal, physical nudge, without correction.
He repeats that the Times is not enforcing its corrections policy as regards its editorial page's finest left-wing blogger in print format, Paul Krugman.
And then he notes that the Times, which has a policy now of posting substantive corrections in a "Corrections" column where minor errata (mispelled names, incorrect titles, etc.) are listed in a "For the Record" column, seems to be slipping quite a few substantive, important corrections into the "For the Record" list.
Thereby covering up how many big, important errors they actual make.
On f'n' fire. On. F'n'. Fire.
