Pussy Dave Hates John Madden
And actually so do I. His writes of his disatisfaction with the overly complex and "realistic" Madden football series.
One reason I favor first-person shooters (on the computer) is that there is virtually no learning curve for playing them. All the controls are basically the same. You can just do a quick adjustment to the default controls to set them up the way you're used to and you can start shooting aliens and stormtroopers.
I just don't get the controls on console games. Maybe I'm just too old and set in my ways, but I don't like having to learn a new way to push buttons.
I'm going to buy the first console game that includes a mouse. The mouse is such a perfect and intuitive control for aiming, turning your head, etc. You want to turn right, you move the mouse right. You want to look up, you push the mouse up. Perfectly intuitive and responsive to what you actually want to do.
I gave up on Medal of Honor on the console, which seemed like it could be a good game, because of my complete disatisfaction with the non-intuitive controls.
Who has time for this crap? Teenagers, I guess. But adults want to play these games too... we just don't want to have to study a manual and practice with a goofy control system for hours to do so.
