Belated Memorial Day Thought
I have trouble with genuine sentiment, but Miss Apropos shares a story from her husband that should touch you.
It's not a war story. It's just the story of a simple but beautiful gesture of respect.
It seems to fit in with Lileks' declaration-of-decency-for-decency's-sake:
But the older I get the more I add to my personal list of things you just do, because you're supposed to. You dress up for church. You wear nice clothes on the airplane. You don't swear in public. You don't kick dogs. You fly the flag on Memorial Day and the Fourth. Is this so hard?
It's not too hard. It's just hard enough to be worth doing.
