Huh: The red-and-white stripes on a windsock allow you to judge windspeed with a glance. Basically, each full band held straight by the wind equals 3 knots or 1.5 mph. It can only tell speeds up to 15 knots but if you're a real expert you can gauge speeds higher than that.
