The Morning Report — 6/ 18 /26

Vesailles-Feh.jpg

Good morning kids. Well, evidently the deal with Iran has been signed, sealed and delivered, one day ahead of schedule. That said, there are still many many questions yet to be answered. I cannot help but recoil in horror when you consider that the treaty was signed at Versailles . . . where 107 years ago a truly disastrous treaty that instead of ending the War to End All Wars only set the stage for a conflagration that nearly destroyed the world, the reverberations of which we are still feeling to this day. That includes foreign policy decisions and mindsets that allowed the Iranian Mullahs to come to power in the first place as well as sowed the seeds of the West's suicide by mass immigration mostly by Muslims who have not and never will surrender their desire to dominate the globe.

And keep that top of mind as we dig into some of the details of this treaty, because regardless of what the Mullahs have agreed to and or promise, they will never abide by it if it prevents them from conquering humanity. delay or a strategic retreat is one thing. Here they are after 1,500 years of barbarism, so what's two more years of Trump or perhaps 8 more of Vance or whoever, and GOD-forbid it's another Democrat then for sure a Shiite nuke perhaps on top of a Shiite ICBM will be headed our way before long.

Islam neither cares about nor views partisan politics in the same way we do. Yes, as part of or even being modern nation states unto themselves, they do indeed have parties and factions vying for control but in the end, it's Islam that supersedes and dries all political considerations.

And so, back to this deal:

The Trump administration is promoting a new agreement with Iran as a diplomatic breakthrough. White House talking points emphasize Iranian commitments to forgo nuclear weapons, international verification, regional stability and economic incentives tied to compliance. Yet many of the details that have emerged so far raise more questions than answers. Administration officials point to Iran's reported commitment, in writing, not to pursue nuclear weapons. But Iran has already made that commitment before. The country has been a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty since 1970. The challenge has never been the language on paper; it has been enforcement. History offers ample reason for skepticism. Supporters of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action similarly argued that inspections and monitoring would prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear ambitions. Critics warned that Tehran would exploit loopholes and conceal activities. Whatever one's view of the JCPOA, the lesson remains: Agreements are only as effective as their enforcement mechanisms.

That is why recent comments from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance deserve close scrutiny.. . The central problem is that the public is being asked to evaluate a framework that has not yet been fully disclosed. Questions about enrichment, missile programs, terrorism, sanctions relief, inspections and enforcement remain unresolved or insufficiently explained.

And lurker extraordinaire Prof. Victor Davis Hanson has a few thoughts...

The shooting portion of the Iran “War” lasted about 40 days—far shorter than Barack Obama’s 2011 congressionally unauthorized seven-month bombing campaign against Libya.

Bill Clinton’s unauthorized 78 days of bombing Serbia in 1999 hit bridges, schools, hospitals, monuments, and power plants—far more indiscriminate targeting than anything in the Iran War so far.

No one yet knows the ultimate verdict on the war, given all the economic, military, political, and strategic variables still in play. A memorandum of understanding released this week might end the war, or result in further American strikes—depending on the degree of Iranian concessions and compliance.

But in this confusing, ongoing drama, many fabrications and distortions still circulate. . .

. . . Yet there still are no ground troops in Iran. The loss of 13 soldiers, while tragic, is less than the two-week fatal-accident rate of the military.

There is a good chance that less than six weeks of active bombing achieved far more than 20 years in Afghanistan and a decade in Iraq—at a fraction of the human and fiscal costs.

The key to negotiating an end to the war is to always remember that Iran’s regime—its theocrats, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, military leaders, and elected officials—has no history of telling the truth or abiding by any agreement it signs.

So the only means of enforcing concessions is to use disproportionate force each time Iran inevitably violates the terms of the armistice.

While VDH seems cautiously optimistic both in terms of what this means here politically and overall geopolitically, he is nevertheless quite correct in his observations about who is running Iran and their non-existent trustworthiness.

Have a great day,
