Ex-Graham Platner campaign director says embattled Maine Dem 'shouldn't be a US senator': 'My concerns have only grown'

Graham Platner's ex-political director expressed her growing concern about the embattled Maine Democrat in a Washington Post op-ed Monday, arguing that her former boss "'shouldn't be a US senator."

"I quit the campaign in October, disturbed by what I learned about the candidate and concerned about his potential impact on the Democratic Party's prospects in my home state," Genevieve McDonald wrote. "As Tuesday's primary arrives, I want to make clear what transpired since August and why my concerns have only grown."

McDonald argued that Platner "exhibits a pattern of dishonest behavior that is impossible to ignore."

"Despite being exposed by a series of scandals beginning last October, he kept assuring voters and the Democratic Party that there were no more skeletons in his closet," she continued. "Then more emerged -- the latest, in recent days, have involved former girlfriends' serious accusations of physical mistreatment."

McDonald described herself as "one of the Platner campaign's first gaslighting casualties," claiming the candidate and his campaign dismissed her concerns about his Nazi tattoo and electability.

"I was willing to believe his explanations, I wanted to believe, until his flaws as a candidate became impossible to ignore," she wrote.

McDonald said she "realized the campaign had not been honest" when reports on Platner's disturbing Reddit post history started to surface.

She claims the Platner campaign offered her "$15,000 to sign a nondisclosure agreement," after her resignation, which she refused to do so, and that "over the past eight months, women have come to me with their own disturbing stories about Platner."

"Enough is enough," McDonald wrote.

Platner, a Marine veteran and former oyster farmer, has faced numerous controversies since launching his campaign, including the sexting scandal and Reddit posts he made downplaying sexual assault, mocking soldiers and contending that white Americans "actually are" racist and stupid, among others.

McDonald urged Democrats to "demand better from those entrusted with power or seeking it."

Maine Democrats are having concerns about the Nazi-tattooed woman-beating socialist violent revolutionary, on the day of the Maine primary.

Platner's continued drumbeat of scandals has divided both Democratic Party leaders and voters as they stare down the must-win Senate race. Defeating Republican Sen. Susan Collins in November is crucial to the party's plans to take back control of the upper chamber and provide a check on President Donald Trump. But even as Platner's staunch supporters stick with him, his political baggage is threatening to sink him with some Democratic and independent voters heading into the general election, according to interviews with nearly two dozen Maine voters.

Several Democratic voters were hesitant to weigh in on the Senate race, saying they felt Platner's candidacy was all but certain at this point and sharing their opinion on him was likely to be met with backlash. Others who were planning to vote Democratic in November are now toying with backing Collins or sitting out the Senate race entirely -- a challenge for the likely nominee and his party.

Peter and Kelly Dufour were manning the grill at a Get-Out-the-Vote event for gubernatorial candidate Hannah Pingree in Portland on Saturday and excited about the former Democratic state House speaker's candidacy for governor. Asked about the Senate race, Kelly put her head in her hands.

Wow, they're too afraid to speak out against Gerald Platner? And they claim those of us who mostly defend Trump against the mostly-absurd communist propaganda allegations against Trump are "cultists."

So we're cultists for Trump? The most successful Republican president since Reagan (and some would say before that)?

But meanwhile you're cultists for an unemployed and frankly unemployable Fake Oyster Farmer born on third base but who has oozed his way down to the non-working class, beating women and ranting on the internet 24/7?

I think I'd rather be a cultist for the guy with actual accomplishments.

The pension doesn't mean he's too disabled to work -- he is, after all, currently seeking the job of U.S. Senator -- but his recent non-campaign endeavors seem more like hobbies than a career. He runs an oyster farm that principally sells oysters to his mother's restaurant. He earned a small stipend as his town's harbor master: $3,000 last year. He lives in a $205,000 house that he bought with a $200,000 loan from his father."

Graham Platner is the downwardly mobile offspring of Maine's upper class.

The people he knows working "3-4 jobs" --if any -- are like him: fake job as an oyster farmer, fake job as a harbor master, fake job at an NGO, etc.
