The ONT Alone Moves The Wheels Of History

Thursday again! I spent the first three days of the week sick as a dog. Honestly, I barely left my bed, I didn't know you could sleep that much. And sweat! I lost a good 5 lbs. On the mend today, and “What, ONT?” Didn't seem right because it “feels” like a Monday to me. Anyhow, on with the ONT!

Hey, I Bet There's A Story Behind That Picture Up There

There is, and it's a cool one, and also the source of a British meme:

Everything Old Is New Again

Gen Z coffee lovers discover new way to combat insane java prices with new ‘home café’ trend

It’s out with overpriced oat milk lattes — and in with DIY coffee culture. Gen Z TikTokkers are ditching the expensive morning coffee runs and instead transforming their kitchens into cozy, custom coffee shops — complete with menus, pastries, and even barista uniforms in an attempt to save money.TikTokker @marlenerodriguezoficial filmed her hands filling a to-go cup with a custom iced coffee, captioning her video, “reminder to make your coffee at home tomorrow morning and save those $7.”

Wow. Gen Z discovers Mr. Coffee. Film at 11

Government Is Our Friend

How Congress Throttled Indoor Water Flow, and Why We Must Liberate It

The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) enshrined a sweeping federal intrusion into energy policy, setting new targets, standards, and mandates on everything from oil and renewables to household electricity — and it passed on a near unanimous basis. Buried in 358 pages of major reforms, a relatively trivial restriction on showerheads, toilets, and faucets went largely unnoticed. Yet the policy choice was clear: in an effort to conserve water, Congress restricted showerhead flow rates to 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm), a minimum 37.5% reduction from the unregulated industry standard that previously ranged between 4 and 10 gpm. In the three years prior to the EPAct, drought-conscious cities and states had begun implementing their own water efficiency standards, but in many cases flow rates were not regulated at all. The government claimed to have stepped in to prevent conflicting standards (a compliance nightmare for manufacturers) but it conveniently settled on the most restrictive figure. Under the new rule, the Department of Energy could fine manufacturers for each illegal showerhead, and the industry fell in line, largely without a fight. The initial designs were awful, with enough notoriety to inspire a Seinfeld episode where Kramer seeks to replace his new low-flow showerhead with one designed for elephants. Since then, manufacturers have filled a bag of tricks to fake high flow rates: improved aeration, complex spray patterns, pressure chambers, and even internal turbines. If you think your shower doesn’t totally suck, it’s probably due to one of these innovations.

Mine doesn't totally suck because I removed the restrictor. I thought everyone knew this.

I'm Not A Big Fan Of Weezer, But This Seems A Bit Harsh

Weezer bassist's wife, Jillian Shriner, shot by police and arrested for attempted murder

Oh, I see. She wasn't shot for being married to a member of Weezer.

Officers allegedly tracked one suspect to the backyard of a house and "observed a female, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun." Police confirmed she was standing in her own yard and also was not involved in the hit-and-run.
After Shriner was shot, police say she "fled into her residence." She allegedly later left her home, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a "non-life-threatening gunshot wound."
Shriner was absentee booked for attempted murder, according to a press release issued by the LAPD Wednesday afternoon. Suspects who are hospitalized are often booked in absentia.

I Can't Imagine The Effort It Took To Put This Together, Even With AI Help

Things like this are the reason the internet was invented. Brilliant.

In case you're wondering, the song is from Animaniacs. And how brilliant was that show? Man I went down a rat hole last night watching Animaniacs clips after I saw the above. Laughed like a loon. Here's a sample if you forgot or if you never watched.

The “Nations of the World” bit reproduced above is the third song in.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by oxygen:
