Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Something scary for the pet thread. I'm always concerned on those rare occasions when our little Ony kitty ventures outside.

VERY scary.

Meet The PetMorons

lucy christms.jpg

I've encouraged Christmas pics of our fur friends. So here is Lucy!!!!

Nurse ratched

Lucy looks lovely by that tree. She is a fine inspiration for Christmas photos of our fur friends. Though not all of them may be so well-mannered next to a tree.

On the left is Kitty and on the right is Duncan. Kitty was staying with us due to a family emergency. At one point, she walked up to Duncan while he was on his bed and climbed in with him. When I sent the picture to her owner, she said "She doesn't even let Milo (The dog that lived with her) get that close!" She was even more shocked to learn that Kitty initiated the contact.

Thanks for taking good care of Kitty. It's wonderful that she felt safe with Duncan. They look great together.

Hiking companion

By-Tor:

Snowdog's dog Boco. His fourth home but he's a keeper.

Sounds like Boco is a great companion. A permanent home with Snowdog is a wonderful change in his life! But maybe he is not so sure about having his photo taken.

HONORARY PETMORON

We don't usually include people in photos of our PetMorons, but this photo was not just snapped yesterday. It comes with a compelling story (below).

Trixie 50.jpg

Greetings!

AoS Lurker "RS" here. Please forgive the intrusion, but I was perusing my photo files, including those digitized a few years ago when my mother (age 91) passed away. Anyway, please excuse the length of this missive, but the attached 50+ year old photo brought back many memories, which I wanted to share with someone of like mind.

First, a few words about my mother. She was definitely not an "indoor" pet person, by any means. Although she was born into humble circumstances in Alabama, she grew up with a code: the extent of one's monetary resources were never to be an excuse for a) bad English grammar; b) bad housekeeping or c) bad behavior in general. My dad used to joke that Mom kept the house in a condition in case the British Royals showed up unexpectedly for High Tea.

Anyway, thus did I grow up.

Needless to say, the idea of pets, especially dogs, was a non-starter. Dogs were messy. they shed hair. They ruined furniture. The thought of a dog would send my mom off to bed with a three day migraine.

Yet . . .God has a sense of humor.

As it happens, I developed a medical condition which medical science could not diagnose. It got to the point where the doctors were speculating that I would not see my high school graduation. So, in an early incarnation of "Make A Wish", did my dad appear with a mutt puppy, whom we named "Trixie."

Mom, of course, had rules, my medical issues notwithstanding. I house trained the dog: I vacuumed the house three or four times a week. We had throw rugs in every room where the dog was allowed.

All went well and Mom mellowed out. In fact, When Trixie shuffled off her mortal coil, we wound up getting dogs numbers 2 and 3 and adopting stray cats (Dad was a cat person).

Oh yeah, obviously I survived the medical issues to be able to write this 50 years later.

Thought you might like to read. Again sorry for the intrusion and the length.

Thanks for the weekly Pet Thread and keep up the good work.

Cheers!

I am so happy that the photo of Trixie brought back those great family memories. Looks like she was a treasured friend. So glad you survived the medical condition that stumped the doctors, too.
