Sequence of maturation of a single bloom
Happy Saturday, everyone! Have you had a chance to go outside? Have you been traveling? Today's opening photos (and those below) are from a lurker. The Horde is wonderful.
Do you recognize that flower? I've grown it.
A couple more photos from our lurker:
Young stag walking on the 20 foot grassy strip behind our house, bordering the nature reserve/wetland behind the house.
An impressive visitor!
Edelweiss near Mürren Switzerland
Growing in its natural habitat, an area known for hiking and winter sports. And for a James Bond movie.

Edible Gardening/Putting Things By
From Neal in Israel:
After a long delay, I’d like to submit some photos for your consideration. The delay has been largely due to my preoccupation with concerns arising from the fact that we’re living through a war. A more routine contributing factor was a very tough summer, with long streaks of 30+ centigrade days, which caused distress to a lot of my plantings and thus reduced the number of attractive photo ops.
Here are some things I’d like to show you from the summer:
My lime tree is pretty hardy, and it did reasonably well this year despite the heat.
The limes are gorgeous. More photos coming up from Neal later.

Time to start reviewing those seed catalogs. Thought about growing Christmas Beans?
There is so much variety among fresh and dried beans.
80 days. Extremely productive, even during the hottest days of summer. Huge seeds - nearly the size of a quarter - with a rich, buttery flavor. Beautiful buff-colored seeds splashed with maroon are particularly good fresh, but also are superb if canned or frozen. Pole.
I've grown bush limas, but not pole limas. Limas and soybeans do a lot better in high heat than most green beans.

Ah, Nature
My town of 650 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland recently installed a "living shoreline" to mitigate shore erosion and flooding. The result has drawn a lot of new visitors. A very large blue heron is a daily visitor, and there is a lot more bird activity including Canada geese, egrets, and various gulls. I took this pic of the big boy at 7:45 am on Oct. 6.

What a wonderful photo!
If you look closely, he had just caught a fish that's dangling at the tip of his beak.

Gardens of The Horde
Hi Katy -
I’m not a regular contributor, but I thought I’d send along this photo of my climbing rose that is still blooming!
“My climbing roses are still booming here in Virginia.” - The Pilot
Thanks, I enjoy your thread.
Gorgeous. Anything going on in your garden? Putting up decorations?

Week in Review
Note the little preschoolers releasing butterflies, and the late comments on wild turkeys and owl boxes.
What has changed since last week's thread? Gardening, Puttering and Adventure Thread, Nov. 23
Any thoughts or questions?
I closed the comments on this post so you wouldn't get banned for commenting on a week-old post, but don't try it anyway.
