The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
The Biden/Obama junta's last gasp of relevance is functionally identical to a toddler smashing his toy because he didn't get the correct scoop of ice cream.
There is no logic to our Ukraine policy, other than a maniacal drive to fatten the coffers of the defense industry and their grifting, grasping, graft beneficiaries, while simultaneously satisfying the masturbatory fantasies of "Pax Americana" among the neo-neocons in D.C. Why did we and the Brits push Ukraine to end their negotiations and fight to the bitter end? Why is NATO membership for Ukraine so important?
The reality is that Putin is a regional bully, but we are giving him ample pretext to set in motion his heated rhetoric about an imperial Russia by pushing constantly against his borders. If Mexico launched Russian missiles at one of our military bases on our southern border, we might get a bit upset. Yet the mid-wits in the halls of power see nothing untoward about providing advanced weapons to Ukraine and then giving them the green light to use them in Russia?
We have cranked up a border dispute between neighbors into a global proxy war, and the rationale for this is...what? That Putin is a big fat meanie and we need to slap him down? If Putin got his way, he would have taken some Ukrainian land and exacted a pledge that Ukraine wouldn't join NATO. Or if the original peace plan had been accepted, he would have withdrawn his forces for that pledge. Sounds reasonable to me.
But no, the West has decided that it will fight to the last Ukrainian and the last dollar! So hundreds of thousands of deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars later, what have we gotten? An angry senile fool and his arrogant handlers stoking the fires of conflict.
Ukraine fires first US-made missile into Russia: WW3 fears as Kremlin threatens 'nuclear response' if long-range Western weapons are used on its territory
A fiery explosion at an ammunition depot in Karachev around 75 miles from the Ukrainian border in Russia's Bryansk region lit up the night sky early this morning on what is the 1,000th day of war in Ukraine.
Eyewitnesses along with Russian and Ukrainian military bloggers first reported the attack, with anonymous Ukrainian military officials later telling RBC Ukraine the strike was conducted with the US-manufactured ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System).
Kyiv is yet to officially confirm the ATACMS strike, but Russia's Defence Ministry claimed they shot down five missiles. A sixth missile was damaged but ultimately landed on the military facility, it said.
Great! What did Ukraine gain from this strike? No doubt a tactical victory...soldiers killed and materiel destroyed. But will it turn the tide of this dispute? No...of course not! We didn't send enough of those missiles for them to make a big difference. The only way for Ukraine to win this is for NATO to join them, and while Ukraine would love that, I think another term for that would be World War III.
Is it a crappy situation? Yes. Geopolitics is a nasty business, and sometimes the bad guys win. We haven't sent troops into Venezuela or Libya or onto the India-Pakistan border or into Mexico to combat its growing narco-state or into Sudan or a dozen other places across the globe. What makes Ukraine so special?
Yup...we all know the answer to that question.
