Commenter and Classical Music fan Hadrian the Seventh has taste that diverges somewhat from mine. His tends to the schmaltzy romantics, but he redeems himself with a lovely selection of the real heavyweights. Not enough, so he will be on probation until he puts Mozart's 15th and 16th Piano Concertos on the short list. Really...there's no accounting for taste.
Anyway, he has lists of his favorites, and has graciously made them available to The Horde.
All reflect my appalling taste, prejudice for orchestral music and preference of the Romantic and Classical periods. Most are reasonably short, but if the inspiration supports it they may be longer.
I'd be happy to send anyone who asks a thumb drive with .mp3's of all the pieces from either list.
That's a generous offer, and one that will make you very happy if you take him up on it. It is amazing how much classical music has crept into popular culture, and you will discover that you know a fair number of pieces on his lists!

I don't know much of their music, but they are one of those bands that is instantly recognizable. And what I have heard...I like! Strange? Sure. But also musical.

I have linked this song...I think...but I really like it, and so you should too! The Waterboys Fisherman's Blues

Enough of their music is irritating that I stopped listening, but this is a pretty good one.

Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of my favorite bands, and has been since I can remember listening to an old transistor radio at night before I fell asleep. WPLJ, WNEW, and a little bit of WXRK. I had forgotten how good Cotton Fields is, but it came up on a play list and I got a huge jolt of memories from my teen years! It's a cover, but I think their version is great!
