Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Purina has formulated a cat food containing an egg ingredient which they say makes cats less allergenic to allergic people. What do you think?

Meet The PetMorons

Love the Pet Thread, so I decided to share some pictures of my dog with the Horde. This is Trevor, my current German Shepherd. When I lost my previous German Shepherd, Max, several years ago, I knew I had to get another one because they are great dogs. With the help of All-Shepherd Rescue, I adopted Trevor last year. He's now 8 years old and a super companion who loves chasing squirrels and other varmints in the backyard. I sent you several pictures so you can choose which to include. They are, from top to bottom - Trevor recuperating after his first bath, Trevor on his couch (that I am sometimes allowed to share), and Trevor in the snow. Hopefully, he'll be with me for a long time. When I occasionally post, it's as Retired, thank God.

What a great dog!

sweet mittens 16.jpg

Hi!

Mitten turns 16 this year.

She got a little arthritis, but cosequin has helped a lot; she can jump up on tables again, and bloody my thigh trying to climb in my lap, just like before!

Like my other cats, she prefers to sleep on my dirty laundry. When awake, she wants lots of cuddling.

Bless the animals and the people who love and care for them.

Thanks!
gp

Sweet, sweet mitten!

galgoo 2.jpg

Hi KT-after seeing the greyhounds of NR Pax in last week's Pet Thread, I thought it would be fun to send in pictures of the Galgos I am dog-sitting. Galgos are slightly smaller greyhounds that speak Spanish, and are rabbit hunters, not racers, though Galgos are very speedy. Unfortunately, once a Galgo ceases being a good, productive hunter, the owners may abandon or kill the dog. This is allowed under Spanish law, as Galgos are classed as livestock and not as domesticated pets.

These two Galgos came to the US from one of the Spanish Galgo rescues. As you can see, they are couch potatoes in the same manner as greyhounds, only changing their sleeping location on the couch as the day progresses.

With so much of the greyhound racing venues closed down, retired racers are getting more difficult to find for adoption. A Galgo can be a good compromise choice, though much care should be exercised if you have cats or small dogs. "Cat safe" is not a common Galgo (or any sight hound) trait, and "cat trainable" can mean "as long as the cat doesn't move."

Lisan

A breed that's new to me! Thanks for the great details. They look relaxed.

Can't be angry at a dog with a face like that, can you?

I love the Pet Thread so much. It's so interesting and touching to hear everyone's pet stories. Two of the three in the trio picture (Al the tuxedo and Bing the white guy) have been on the Pet Thread before. They were with the long-haired tuxedo in the single picture, Sy, who died two and a half years ago and it's taken me that long to talk about it. He was such a darling. The gray fluffball came along from a rescue a few months later. They said he came from a hoarding stitution but they didn't specify animal or other but I suspect both. They were surprised that I chose him at the rescue. They said all they did was hide in the corner of the cage and wouldn't interact with anyone. I said that I could see that, but I thought he needed me. He's an odd one. Doesn't speak at all, and it took two years for him to warm up enough to jump on the bed with the other two clowns. Very shy still, and very sweet natured. His name is Jimmie, after Jimmie Lunceford, American jazz alto saxophonist and bandleader in the swing era. I name all my cats after jazz people.

Cheers to you, K.T. for all your excellent posts, and to all the morons!

Jimmie is a beautiful cat. And I know the feeling, not being able to mention the loss of Sy for so long. The three cats look great together.

Duncan on Big Shrimpy.jpg

I am sad to announce that on Tuesday, we had to have Duncan put to sleep. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma back in April and it quickly took a toll on him. He was a playful and lovable boy who viewed every person, dog, cat and rabbit as a new friend. Attached is a picture from the day we adopted him.

-NR Pax

We are so sad that you have lost Duncan. He looks and sound like a wonderful dog.

Everyone grieves in their own way, but Roger found a tweet that expresses some thoughts that many of us may have upon the loss of a pet. It seems appropriate today.
