Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Pet News

From By-Tor:

I'll summarize so you don't have to read it: Don't hold your pet's head and hold his eyes open and point him at the sun during the eclipse. He doesn't care about it.

Apart from that, they will be fine.

Expert advice to keep your pets safe and stress-free during the celestial event.

So, looks like By-Tor may be our expert here.

By-Tor also took some photos of dogs enjoying traffic.

Nature or nurture?

A certain well-known Canadian blog recently featured this longer video of two border collies at work in Scotland. With a human. A lot of this has to be "nurture".

Meet The PetMorons

Hi and thank you for the Pet Thread every week! I'm a lurker and rare commenter, usually going by uafanct. All of my pets of the past 12 years have been graciously featured in the Pet Thread at some point, except for the one I have now.

I'm submitting this in memorial on the coming anniversary of his crossing the rainbow bridge. This handsome boy, Muffin, was found by me at my place of work at the time just over 12 years ago apparently abandoned, and foraging in the dumpsters for who-knows-how-long to that point. He chose me to be his human for some reason and honestly, the Lord could not have gifted me a better cat.

He was the most loving cat ever - literally loved to be held in a hug position, hugging me back almost as long as I wanted, and sometime grabbing my neck to keep me from putting him down. That's how he got his name - he was just a big ole' love muffin. I called him many names, including little lion because he was so regal looking. He was also fiercely protective, which seemed unusual in a cat, and almost all who saw him wanted him because he was so big, sweet tempered and beautiful. It was heart wrenching to let him go, but far too selfish to not. He will always be special and I will always miss you my buddy.

A beautiful memorial for a beautiful cat. Thanks.

Kira and Rudy Treat.jpg

Rudy2 July 16 2020.jpg

We had a rough March this year as our 11 year old Somali-mix Rudy suddenly developed fluid on his lungs. After watching him become more lethargic and hiding a lot, we took him to the Vet. We tried medications but between the Thursday and Saturday before Holy Week he deteriorated, finally struggling to breathe. He passed in the car on the way to the vet's office to try emergency surgery.

My wife and I (mostly her) fostered him and his four siblings from 2 days old. At 2 months, we gave three of the siblings up for adoption (they all found homes within a couple of days). His sister Kira stayed with us. She is aware something is wrong and seems to be wondering where Rudy has gone.

He was a wonderful, intelligent and impatient friend who loved to be scritched and stroked and insisted that we add ice cubes to his water bowl before he would drink. We have been proud to be called his faithful servants.

The photo shows Rudy (the orange one) and Kira (buff and white) a few months ago. The other shows Rudy keeping my wife company at her work desk.

Thank you for your Pet Thread. It's always a comfort to see that goodness and innocence still exist in our darkening world.

Mitch in Tucson

So sorry that you have lost wonderful Rudy. Give some extra love to Kira for us. She is a beautiful cat, too.

CBD has graciously formatted Bonecrusher's short video of little Sarah playing with big brother Buster. Looks like a fair match, don't you think?

They were featured on March 16 in a glamour shot. Click on the photo. See if I formatted this thing correctly.

If you start feeling nostalgic, here a link to last week's Pet Thread, the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, March 30. Some special PetMoron stories and photos there.

I closed the comments on this post so you wouldn't get banned for commenting on a week-old post, but don't try it anyway.
