The Week In Woke

A detransitioner is suing the American Academy of Pediatrics for lying to her about the risks and complications of gender-mutilation surgery.

A woman who was pumped with testosterone and underwent hormone therapy when she was a young teenager is suing both her doctors and the American Academy of Pediatrics, which her lawyers say has knowingly lied about the impact of the radical sex-change treatments it recommends, according to a copy of the lawsuit obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire.

Isabelle Ayala, now a twenty-year-old woman, had just turned fourteen when she was committed to the hospital for suicidal thoughts, according to the lawsuit. It was during this hospital stay that she met with Dr. Jason Rafferty, who during his first brief meeting with Ayala determined that she "meets criteria to consider hormonal transition," with the only stated obstacle being parental consent. The lawsuit states that Rafferty and other doctors sent Ayala down the "path of 'gender-affirming' medicalization" rather than addressing the true roots of her mental health problems -- six months into her testosterone treatments, Ayala tried to commit suicide.

The treatments, however, continued, until Ayala moved away from Rhode Island and decided to quit them "cold-turkey." Now comfortable with her gender, she regrets what the doctors did to her, the lawsuit says.

...

The lawsuit not only goes after the doctors who treated Ayala, but also the American Academy of Pediatrics, where Rafferty and his colleagues worked to publish a now-infamous policy statement advocating for aggressive gender treatments for children. Lawyers for Ayala say the policy statement laid the groundwork for an "entirely new model of treatment" based on "outright fraudulent representations" of scientific proof.

"Defendants have doubled- and tripled-down on their commitment to the policy statement and its 'affirmative model' of treatment, while continuing to promote and profit off it," the lawsuit states, alleging that Ayala and other children are "victims of a conspiracy entered into and perpetuated to the present day by certain ideologically captured individuals in positions of power at the American Academy of Pediatrics."

...

Among the other doctors involved in treating Ayala at the Hasbro Children's Hospital Gender Clinic in Rhode Island was Dr. Michelle Forcier, a proponent of so-called "gender affirming care" for children whose perspective was featured in Walsh's "What Is A Woman?" documentary. Ayala told Forcier that she was "increasingly depressed and anxious" with the testosterone treatments, but she did nothing to intervene.

" " " Doctor " " " Forcier is the Condescending Kindergarten Teacher Dr. Mengele seen in Matt Walsh's What Is a Woman? I pray she gets bankrupted.

At a "Fall Classic" swim meet, Canada permits a 50-year-old man to compete against 13-year-old girls.

Go to 6:38 to see this man in a dress tell attendees of a symposium on cognition that cramming for a test the night before is actually more effective than studying over a period of days with space between each studying session. So in addition to be a violator of girls' spaces, he's also super-good at his job (whatever that is).

After the New York Times spread Hamas disinformation about the Gaza hospital (parking lot) "bombing," Twitter yanked their verification badge.

In the wake of The New York Times' false reporting , claiming the Israel Defense Forces bombed a hospital in Gaza, a report which was later totally debunked, X, formerly known as Twitter, removed the Times' verification badge.

The Times ran an article on October 17 that trumpeted, "Israeli Strike Kills Hundreds in Hospital, Palestinians Say." The New York Times and CNN were also caught using images from different incidents that showed buildings that had been completely destroyed.

In one of its first tweets about the bomb at al-Ahli al-Arab hospital, The New York Times used a photo from a different bombing site.

That's deliberate.

California spent $110 million to "stop Asian hate." And yet, Asian hate persists. How could this possibly have happened?

What was that money spent on? Through a public records request, Public recently obtained grant applications from close to 50 grantees in the San Francisco Bay Area region, through two rounds of funding. The programs proposed by most of these groups, which typically received hundreds of thousands of dollars each, have little obvious connection to the goal of protecting Asians from violent attacks.

Collectively, the applications provide a glimpse into how much of the activist non-profit sector sustains itself by exploiting high-profile crises to raise funds that are then diverted into barely related or entirely unrelated causes. It also indicates how little the actual victims of those crises -- in this case, Asian hate crime victims -- actually benefit from these ballyhooed government spending sprees, which keep non-profit workers employed but do little for the communities they purport to serve.

[The] majority of the groups that received funding proposed programs that have little obvious direct impact on the lives of Asian hate crime victims or potential victims.

The Oakland Asian Cultural Center was awarded $90,000 for the 2021-22 fiscal year to produce an anti-racism podcast. (For the second fiscal year, the same organization received $168,000, though the documents that the California Department of Social Services provided to Public did not include the group's application for its second round of funding.)

Richmond Area Multi-Services, Inc. received $100,000 in the first round to provide mental health services for a group of children the organization took on an anti-racism road trip. (RAMS received $375,000 in the second round, but again, its application for continued funding was not provided to us.)

One group received funding to combat "anti-Blackness in the PI (Pacific Islander) community," as if the reason Asians were victims of hate crimes was because of their own racism. Likewise, a group that represents Asian nail salon workers boasted of publishing a statement "condemning anti-Black racism in nail salons." Another group aimed to "address biases against individuals who are houseless, formerly incarcerated, or Black/African American" -- presumably biases held by Asians in the Oakland Chinatown community that the organization serves. Yet another group described its work educating the Asian community about the "connections" between anti-Asian violence and "anti-Black racism and white supremacy."

Columbia professor: I would never send my own children to this antisemitic, terrorism-supporting school.

An Israeli American professor at Columbia University's business school slammed his employer in a fiery speech on campus Wednesday night -- ripping the university for apparently not publicly denouncing pro-Palestinian student organizations that he claimed are "pro-terror."

Assistant professor Shai Davidai alleged that Columbia's president, Minouche Shafik, has not spoken out against the student groups and said he would never allow his daughter to attend the Ivy League school in remarks he posted to YouTube titled "an open letter to every parent in America."

Davidai shook with rage as he spoke at a campus vigil for the Israelis kidnapped by Hamas terrorists and blasted liberal universities across the country for not "taking a stand" against the attacks.

Via SMOD, a college DEI director says that DEI drives antisemitism on campus.

The blatant antisemitism on college campuses has shocked millions of Americans over the past week and a half.

But not me.

I saw antisemitism on a weekly basis in my two years as a faculty "diversity, equity and inclusion" director.

In fact, I can safely say that toxic DEI ideology deliberately stokes hatred toward Israel and the Jewish people.

I was hired to head the DEI department at Silicon Valley's De Anza College in 2021.

As a black woman, I was the perfect person for the job -- on paper.

Yet I made the mistake of trying to create an authentically inclusive learning environment for everyone, including Jewish students.

Turns out, a toxic form of DEI (which is more accurately called "critical social justice") demanded I do the opposite.

Before I got to campus, Jewish students had endured a litany of hateful and hostile acts.

The school had hosted a Hanukkah party that featured no Hanukkah imagery but plenty of pro-Palestinian protesters.

The student body had passed resolutions on "divesting" from Israel -- the first college of its kind to do so -- and criticizing Israel's "attacks against humanity."

Multiple Jewish students told me the campus was essentially an antisemitic environment.

I tried to right this wrong. First, I hosted Jewish speakers on campus, with the goal of promoting diversity and inclusion by sharing different perspectives.

Critics called me a "dirty Zionist," and the school refused to promote the events.

I then pushed the administration to issue a strong condemnation of antisemitism.

My request was refused. Some campus leaders and colleagues repeatedly told me I shouldn't raise issues about Jewish inclusion or antisemitism.

Kurt Schlichter: Americans are waking up to the fact that Regime "universities" are boxing them out of the American dream based on their race and normal gender.

But there was another aspect to this, one that is even more likely to change minds and hearts in the direction of reality. It is the realization by the people with an antiquated view of the universities that their kids are likely to never see the inside of a big name campus. Oh, the very richest kids' spawn will. They will have no problem getting into the Harvards and Yales because daddy has $1 billion and just paid for the new wing of the Social Justice and Decolonization Department building. But regular folks, whose children aren't able to check multiple boxes on the intersectionality form are out of luck. The big lie is that if you work hard enough and show merit, your kid can get in too. But your kid can't. These are exclusive clubs, and your kid better stay outside the velvet rope because your kid is not on the VIP list.

Everyone recently saw that story of the A+ graduate with near perfect SATs who actually started his own company, and yet couldn't get admitted into any of the top universities. He made the mistake of being Asian, which is a mistake on par with being some white kid from the suburbs. The colleges have decreed, and the awful wine women inhabiting their admissions departments concur, that if you were those things you don't get a shot. Merit is dead for the designated undiverse. And when people realize that their kids are out of luck if they don't have some bizarre gender identity or something else that makes them thrill the hearts of the Chardonnay-swillers who pick and choose the Ivy student bodies, these voters are going to say "Oh, hell no!" next time they are asked to subsidize academia both with tax money and respect.

As soon as it dawns on most Americans that, no matter how hard they work, their kids have zero chance of getting into not just the most prestigious colleges, but any of the allegedly better colleges simply because of their race, normal gender identity, and failure to be communist weirdos, the remaining support for academia is going to nosedive. Add to that the consistent insistence of the little brats who took out huge student loans and now demand that we pay them back and you have a recipe for unprecedented resentment against colleges. And that will eventually manifest is our elected officials who hold the purse strings.

CEO: Parents, don't bother sending your children to the failure factories which call themselves "colleges."

This post is geared primarily to U.S. parents of teenagers who are contemplating university education post-high school. As you are considering the next phase in your high school students' life, please do not blindly assume that their best path forward will necessarily involve college education.

You may want to consider that:

1. More and more employers are ignoring college degrees, recognizing that they typically provide little or no value to the recipient and hardly confer a specified level of education, let alone skills. I speak as the CEO and founder of a multi-national company with around two hundred employees (half of whom are in the US), and which engages with well over one thousand contractors. Trust me when I tell you that companies care much, much less about this than you are led to believe;

...

4. In many cases the professors and university leadership take advantage of their youth, optimism and naivete to literally poison their minds. We have seen it manifested in campuses across the United States over the past week with respect to Israel. That's particular close to my heart and mind at the moment. But don't kid yourself and think that it ends there. If you believe in and support Western values and civil liberties, be aware that your children are being indoctrinated against things that you believe in and that matter to you.

...

Don't take the easy approach and simply assume that a college degree is required or at all in their best interest because "that's what everyone does." Very often the precise opposite is true.
