Happy Saturday afternoon and welcome to The Weekend Hobby Thread. Yes Morons, that is me in that photo when things go just my way.
I'm not very handy, although I want to be. Projects usually never turn out the way I want, dream or need.
I have a project waiting for me at the cabin I really need to get to. So yes putzing around the home front is one of my hobbies. At least until I can get Mike The Handy-Man over or my buddy Kenny.
And by all means, leave politics and current events outside the front door.

Speaking of admiration and a little bit lot of envy. Let's take a look at what our friend Clay sent in for this week's Hobby Thread. Not only can he build things. He can play music with the things he builds. Pretty damn cool!
Here is his story about today's violin.
For the first home made travel violin that I posted to the hobby thread last December, I was following a video recipe posted on the youtube by a man who makes and sells them. So the violin that I made looked exactly like the one in the video (his design). I decided to take what I learned and apply it to a violin design of my own. It has a more complicated body. And I mounted the bridge on a resonator cone because I just wanted to hear what a resonator violin sounded like. The resonator cone is spun from a one quart paint can lid by a company called CBGitty that supplies instrument parts for home made guitars and the like. I think that the resonator makes the tone much brighter and livelier than the first travel violin. Here is a video of the instrument so you can hear its voice.
Photos of his creation.......

Thank you for sharing your passion with us here.

Our next hobbyist is Ken. He's pretty shy. Here is what he had to say about this really neat project. "Granddaughter's 2nd Birthday Gift. Made this from 1/2 sheet of 3/4 birch plywood".

Hopefully the plywood didn't cost you an arm or a leg or a 2nd mortgage.

When our youngest tax-exemption Sparky was growing up, she loved Barbie Dolls. I'm glad the internet was not yet spawned by Al Gore. Or I could have been spending a 3 day weekend building the following.........
Thank you for stopping by this afternoon. If you have some hobby ideas, stories, tips you can send those to yours truly. I'll also take some Jenkins Green acrylic paint, 20/0 fan brushes and primed pre-stretched canvas to petmorons at gmail dot com. Until the next time, Keep Hobbying On!
