Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Guinea pigs are hybrids . . .

Very popular (as pets) in Switzerland. It is against the law in parts of Switzerland to keep a single Guinea Pig as a pet. It must have a friend. I believe that you must also talk to them in baby talk. Preferably in your native dialect.

Meet The PetMorons

Temporary PetMoron:

Hi KT, not sure whether this belongs in the "Garden" or "Pet" threads--

My weekend walks take me through a strip mall, and passing through, this fellow (or gal, I can't tell) decided to let me know that he was hungry and wanted food. I had no food with me, but despite his disappointment he allowed me to take a few photos.

I met a fellow out birding later, and he told me this was a young robin. This bird had absolutely no fear of me; I got within a few inches of him to take the pictures and he really seemed more interested in food and what kind I might have with me (which was none, alas). Clearly others were feeding him, so he's used to people. I told him that the restaurants were further down.

Thanks again for the weekend threads!

Two years ago, about, a stray or possibly feral cat invited herself into our house. We accepted that we had a new cat. Within a few weeks, her middle section began taking on a spherical shape. "That cat's pregnant," I surmised. A trip to the vet confirmed it. We gave her the name Bean after the character on "Disenchanted."

On the last day of July, 2021 Bean disdained the various boxes we had positioned around the house and gave birth to four kittens inside our couch. Not intending to keep them, we gave them designations in place of names. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Tango.

We didn't intend to keep them, but The Mister fell in love with Charlie's "Derpy" face. And while I was doing some work on my laptop, a two-week old Bravo trundled over to me and fell asleep on my elbow. I decided I was keeping him.

My sister (bless her name) found a home for Alpha and Tango. Two years on, Bravo and Charlie are valued members of the team. And Bean ... who doesn't like other cats ... has become an alley cat with basement privileges. When not prowling the neighborhood, she hangs out in our basement to stay dry, warm, and safe.

Handsome Bravo wears the orange safety jacket. Charlie is in pink. Bean observes the neighborhood from the roof of the shed.

Fosters, from Bruce:

two rescuues b.png

K.T.,

After our Labrador seeing eye dog passed away in May 2022, we fostered two rescue dogs.

Kenzie is on the left. She was found by Surfers for Strays (https://www.surfersforstrays.org/home) in San Diego. What was to be a two-week foster with us turned into 8 months. She now lives in Irvine CA.

The dog on the right is Jet. He was found in a hoarding situation in Los Angeles with 15 other dogs. He spent too much time in a crate, was malnourished and unneutered.

Apparently he was rescued shortly before he was to be put down at the city animal shelter.

Over several months we got his weight up and he was neutered.

He is quite the lover boy in that he always wants to be with his human. He was adopted to a home in Garden Grove. We hope to dog sit him in the future.

Both of these dogs were placed by SAFE Rescue Team (https://saferescueteam.org/).

What a wonderful way to remember your seeing eye dog. They look like wonderful dogs.

And Bruce's adoptee!

From a family in Long Beach, via ESRA (English Springer Rescue America https://www.springerrescue.org/), we adopted Buster.

I had an English Springer Spaniel as a child/teen and have always liked the breed.

Buster is an active four-year old who enjoys his walks. He has grooming scheduled for August 2nd.

I'm sure you will love having Buster in the family!

Before and After Bo - Copy.jpg

Greetings fellow AoS pet enthusiasts,

I can't remember if I had ever sent in photos previously in regards to Bo. I found him outside the building where I work, the front desk personnel stated they had seen him for the past couple of weeks and were throwing him some scraps now and again and hadn't seen the mother for quite some time. I asked if they had called animal control or someone else to get him because he only looked to be about 8 weeks old. They stated no.

I am not a cat person by any standards, however, I can't stand to see any animal be neglected. So I set out with some cooked chicken and a box and he's been a member of the household ever since. I believe he's of the Manx line due to the semi-bobbed tail. He gets along well with our, well, my wife's other two cats, one of which is a full bob-tail. As a cat, he doesn't do anything special, as most cats don't, but, he does provide some nice lap warming in the winter and does like to be petted and has a meow that you have to really struggle to hear. As far as the name, my wife was taking him to the vet for initial checks and asked me what we are going to name him. I asked her to look at signs along the road going to the vet. She was naming some off and then came across Bojangles. It thought it was fitting seeing the condition he was living in at the time, so just Bo for short. The photos are the before and after of Mr. Bojangles. The second was just taken today of him hanging out under our elephant ears on a hot and humid July afternoon. Best wishes to all, love scrolling through the Pet Thread.

Meet Vanna.

She was adopted by my aunt Karen when she was 2 years old. After my aunt passed away my mom took care of her. After mom passed away uncle G took her under his wing. She loved to ride around in his scooter, hang on the front porch in the sun. When uncle G passed last year she became my little love.
We were inseparable and my husband fell head over heels for this little princess. Vanna passed away a little over a week ago. She was 15. I am heartbroken. Rainbow Bridge awaits us all I smile through the tears.

Oh, she loved toast. And hanging around in her sweatshirt.

Mpfs

So sorry you lost sweet Vanna.

This Kai and Harper. Kai has been here before but Harper (the white one) is new to the family. Two days and she thinks she is queen of the castle.

Steve H.

Already queen! Kai looks good-natured, though.
