The Music Thread: What Color Is Your Music, And What Does It Do In The Sack?

[Garrett even wears crocs when he cycles!]

Apparently Tracy Chapman was a victim! And a lesbian! Never mind that she was amazingly successful, and kept her love life private. Hell, I didn't know she was a lesbian until I read this article, and even then, that came from gossip, not her. And I am so oblivious that I didn't know she was black (or maybe I had just forgotten) until I heard her do an excellent duet with B.B. King: The Thrill Is Gone, and looked her up, and then remembered her huge hit from the 1990s: Fast Car, which is a pretty solid song. And it led me to this: Oh look! The woke erasure of Tracy Chapman.

Sadly, in the Great Age of Stupid that we live in, somebody had to say something daft about the cover, to make it all about race and sexuality. Step forward Emily Yahr of the Washington Post. In a tweet announcing her article, she wrote: ‘As Luke Combs’s hit cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” dominates the country charts, it’s bringing up some complicated emotions in fans and singers who know that Chapman, as a queer black woman, would have an almost zero chance at that achievement herself.’
Amazing that the left is constitutionally incapable of seeing people as unique, and must categorize them by their skin color, sexuality, victim status, or some other convenient handle that minimizes their humanity but maximizes their political utility.

I have no doubt that Tracy Chapman is a reliable liberal, but frankly, I don't give a rat's ass as long as she doesn't preach her politics to me.

Luke Combs' cover is below the fold, and it's not bad!

Fast Car by Luke Combs.

But not as good as Chapman's original.

I've linked Boxcar Willie's version, but here is what I think is a better one. Wabash Cannonball by some guy named Johnny Cash.

Classic Americana. Classic country music. I absolutely love this stuff.

***

Should I Stay Or Should I Go
by the most awful champagne socialists in music. And if they aren't, they are certainly in the conversation! But it's great music.
***

And It's Still Alright by Nathaniel Rateliff. I have no idea who this guy is, but it's a good song, although unfortunately I keep forgetting to check out his other stuff. Anyone know if it's worthwhile?
