The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Reports based on various tweets by left-wing activists are wildly inaccurate – Laura Ingraham, the top-rated woman in cable news, is now and will continue to be a prominent host and integral part of the Fox News lineup,” Fox News statement>

Quote II

“Even if the compliance rate were 100 percent, the government should not be able to access Americans’ communications without a warrant,” Elizabeth Goitein, co-director of the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice

Quote III

“How do you put on a defense if you don’t know the crime?” Alan Dershowitz

The Tuesday Overnight Open Thread (5/16/23) did a great job of pointing out AI Judges. This would be the perfect case for AI Judge. One fucked up driver killed another fucked up driver.

Summer Butler, 39, pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence for the January 2022 crash, the 8 News Now Investigators reported last year. On April 19, Judge Carli Kierny sentenced Butler to a 28-to-72-month prison sentence and three years of probation. Kierny suspended Butler’s sentence, meaning she would not have to go to prison if she stuck to the terms of her probation.

On Jan. 14, 2022, North Las Vegas police reported the two-car crash near Cheyenne Avenue and Civic Center Drive. Police said a car was making a U-Turn in a center lane, causing the front of another car, which Butler was driving, to collide with it. The driver and the passenger in the first car were both ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Boot Girls.

A small round key has unlocked a world of fame and fortune for two balaclava-clad women who are among the most in-demand entrepreneurs in Atlanta.

That key is one of a handful the so-called Boot Girls use mostly around Buckhead, an upscale Atlanta neighborhood, to unlock metal brackets attached to vehicles parked on private property, like one Jaguar on May 5, when I spent the evening with the boot removal Robin Hoods.

"Can I get a picture real quick?" the owner of the car asked the pair while handing me his phone in the fading afternoon light. "I support ya'll."

The Boot Girls, who go by the noms de guerre Boot Baby, who wears a black balaclava, and Boot Sheisty, in pink, have built a following of more than 85,000 across Instagram and TikTok. That's where the Boot Girls offer up the legally dubious practice of boot removals for $50, a price that undercuts parking enforcement companies (which often charge $75 per day for removal), Boot Baby said.

When I trout fish in northern Wisconsin which has an overabundance of bears I make sure I carry my Ruger .357magnum. Obviously Toshihiro Nishikawa wasn't packing heat. Or any type of self defense protection.

Police are searching for an angler who went missing at a lake in Japan's Hokkaido, suspecting he may have been attacked by a bear after a human head was found in the area Monday, they said.

According to the police, a boat dropped off Toshihiro Nishikawa, 54, to fish unaccompanied at a spot on Lake Shumarinai in Horokanai early Sunday. An employee of the boat operator later saw a bear nearby with waders dangling from its mouth and attempted to call Nishikawa, but could not reach him.

The information prompted the town office to launch a bear hunt operation and a member of the group killed one on Monday afternoon, according to a town official.

Elizabeth Holmes’ no good, very bad day: Bail denied and a bill for $452 million

Holmes will use the next 13 days to get her affairs in order, she told the court.

Convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes had a rough Tuesday.

The judge in her fraud case, US District Judge Edward Davila, ordered her and her ex-boyfriend, Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, to pay $452 million in restitution to defrauded investors of their infamous and now defunct blood-testing company, Theranos. Holmes, the company's founder and former CEO, and Balwani, the former president, are jointly responsible for paying back the entirety of the hefty sum.

ST. ANTHONY – A 19-year-old was recently charged after allegedly hitting a man with his truck and driving with him on the hood for “several hundred feet.”
