"Anti-Woke" Super Mario Bros. Rings In $377 Million Globally in Five-Day Opening; Is the Film a Disney-Killer?

Aw, that's too bad for Disney. Bob Iger might have some more uncomfortable questions to evade answering at his next shareholder meeting.

The movie stars the vocal talents of the man leftwing Twitter most hates after Orange Man Bad, Christian Man Bad Chris Pratt.

For nearly a century, ever since its founder and namesake released his first Mickey Mouse cartoon, the Walt Disney Company has been the king of animation.

Unfortunately for Disney, a new movie from another prominent film company is suggesting that those days might be over.

According to Deadline, Universal/Illumination's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," a new release, is on track for a $368 million global five-day start, which would make it the biggest animated opening of all time.

This record would beat out Disney's "Frozen 2," the 2019 movie that currently holds the top spot at $358 million.

The audience scores speak for themselves. Although it has only received a 56% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with the movie receiving an audience score of 96%.

Illumination has also crushed the box office with the Minions and Gru movies.

With these two massive, beloved intellectual properties under their belt, Illumination might topple Disney as the king of animation.

Naturally, Disney will look for answers as to why it is being beaten out by competitors in a field the company has dominated. Unfortunately for Disney, the company will not be able to rely on the tried-and-true method of blaming racism. That's because nearly a plurality of the audience for "Super Mario Bros" has been Latino, according to Deadline.

But this should not come as a surprise to anyone who has been following cultural developments in the past few years, as Disney has gone the way of almost every other mega-corporation in embracing and promoting the woke ideology.

Instead of trying to preach woke ideology, Illumination chose to take an intellectual property that is beloved by millions of people globally and make a story that remains true to the world created by Nintendo.

Disney needs to quickly change course; otherwise, its days as a leader are numbered.

Grace Randolf and other leftwing social media influencers posing as critics attacked the movie viciously, but Nintendo, Universal, and Illumination are having the last laugh. Midnight's Edge praised the film, but also noted: It's not made for adults. Kids will like this, but adults will only find it occasionally more than a bright-colored bore.

The movie had the biggest box office opening of 2023, and some conservatives think they know why.

Their evidence that the movie is woke is that Princess Peach is a capable heroine in the film, which they wrongly claim conservatives hate. Well no, conservatives don't hate capable women; we hate ballbusting, arrogant, entitled feminists, and the constant messaging that men must take a backseat to our new Future is Female girlbosses.

Midnight's Edge says that Mario almost shares top billing with Princess Peach, but that's inevitable: She may have been Bowser's prisoner in the first Super Mario Bros. game, but since then she has been the second-most popular playable character in all of the many, many Mario Bros. games since then.

Midnight's Edge also says that Nintendo stepped in to reject the original script, which was woke, with the oh-too-typical Girlboss Who Totally Shows Up Her Male Sidekick messaging.

So we have a movie where the female hero is almost the equal of the male. Fair enough -- that's a huge anti-woke W in the culture wars.

John Leguizamo says that a movie about Italian brothers should have had Hispanic leads because... um, not sure why. I guess because he was Luigi in the poorly-faring 1993 version?

I guess he thinks that makes Luigi Hispanic now, forever?

Mario Bros just grossed $377 million--a new record for animated features--despite John Lequizamo boycotting the film because it "messed up the inclusion" casting two white men, Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, as the Italian American leads. Nintendo refused to let Mario Bros go woke!

I heard an Always Sunny Podcast a while back in which Charlie Day said his father was, in fact, half Italian. He said the "Day" name was a truncated, Americanized version of the Italian name "Del Giorno," which is Italian for "Of the Day." Day's mother is mostly English so Day is only a quarter Italian, but that's more than John Leguizamo is.

But leftwing femmy pissbaby John Leguizamo still thinks they should have hired Hispanics like himself. Muh Diversity really doesn't have any firm rules, except for the one: Anyone who cries about Muh Diversity has to be paid off. It's all rent-seeking behavior. Pay me for just existing.
