Brutal Cold Has Killed 57 People Across the US, 27 in Western New York Alone

How did you hold up?

I didn't travel so I was okay. My back went out, and is only now recovering, so I couldn't have gone anywhere even if I wanted to.

This is a new thing for me. I've never had back problems before. Apparently living the sedentary life of a blogger weakens your back muscles to the point where you can start hurting your back with moderate exercise. So I guess I'll have to start doing planks and side-bridges.

The deadly cold killed 57.

The winter storm ravaging most of the United States during the Christmas holidays has claimed at least 27 lives in western New York and at least 57 nationwide, officials estimated Monday.

Erie County, N.Y., Executive Mark Poloncarz announced at a Monday news conference that 12 additional deaths had been caused by the historic blizzard, bringing the area's death toll to 25 -- most occurring in the city of Buffalo.

One death was reported in neighboring Niagara County of a man who died from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning attributed to the storm, the Buffalo News reported.

The new deaths bring the number of total deaths nationwide to at least 57 people, according to a tally by NBC News.

Poloncarz said that "snow is still dropping" and that officials expect another 8 and 12 inches of snow by 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

One woman was trapped in a snowbound car near Buffalo. She sent her family a last video message via her cell phone before she died.

Taylor informed family via a group chat that she was trapped in the snow and also shared video taken from inside her vehicle.

"She was telling my sister that she was scared," Shawnequa Brown, her sister, recalled.

After the young woman called 911 she waited for crews to rescue her, but they were unable to get to her location. According to her mother, Wanda Brown Steele, her daughter was planning to rest for a while then try walking home once the storm calmed.

However, she was later found dead inside the vehicle after being in the car for what her family believes was nearly 20 hours.

It seemed that everyone who tried to rescue her also became trapped. "Fire department, police, everybody got stuck," commented Tomeshia Brown, the young woman's sister.

150,000 homes are without power.

Nearly 150,000 U.S. electricity customers remained without power on Monday, including 15,889 in the state of New York, according to the online tracker PowerOutage.us.

A lot of the power outages are due to possibly "coordinated attacks" on power stations.

Washington state authorities said several electrical power stations were vandalized over the holiday weekend, with officials investigating whether they were part of a "coordinated attack."

In a news release, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) said its deputies were notified in the early morning of three reported burglaries on Sunday at two Tacoma Public Utilities substations and at a Puget Sound Energy (PSE) facility.

Authorities added that all three energy facilities were broken into and some of the substations' equipment was either vandalized or damaged during the incident.

PCSD said at least 14,000 customers saw their power cut off due to the incident. Authorities added it's unknown if the attack on the substations were "coordinated."

I've seen the media claiming, without evidence, that these attacks are being conducted by "neo-Nazis" and "White Supremacists," ignoring the fact that it's the "Green" left that is crazed about stopping people from using power.

And that Washington state is a bastion of antifa. You know, the organization that FBI Director Wray claims is not an organization, just "an ideology."

The frigid cold and blizzards disrupted travel throughout the country, resulting in thousands of cancelled flights.

Southwest was hit particularly hard. I know someone whose flight was delayed 10 hours because his plane had to come in from Dallas. I guess Dallas got it really bad.

Most major airlines have canceled or delayed thousands of flights, with Southwest Airlines canceling at least 70% of its flights Monday -- more than 2,600 -- due to a reported system meltdown. The chaos continued Tuesday, with the airline canceling 62% of flights for the day and canceling 62% of flights on Wednesday.

Southwest is now doing a "reset" by moving some crews and planes around the country without passengers to get them into place and restart operations. Southwest have stopped selling tickets on flights coming up in the next few days. Passengers are being encouraged to buy flights on other airlines to get to their destinations before the new year.

On Christmas Day, 42% of Southwest's flights were canceled and 48% were delayed, according to data from FlightAware. As of Monday night, data showed that nearly 4,000 flights had been canceled within, into or out of the U.S., while more than 7,700 had been delayed.

I hope everyone is somewhere warm and safe now.

Like Joe Biden. Our Resident bugging out for the Virgin Islands as America digs out of the snow and ice.

President Joe Biden plans to leave for a vacation in the Virgin Islands on Tuesday after the United States was blasted with record-cold temperatures and winter weather.

The president and his family leave Tuesday evening for St. Croix and plan to stay on the island for the rest of the week to celebrate New Year's Day.

Meanwhile, about 50 people were killed across the United States as a bomb cyclone of Arctic air created record winter storms and freezing temperatures across most of the country. The city of Buffalo suffered a "once-in-a-generation" storm as 43 inches of snow fell over the weekend. The death toll in Buffalo reached 27 as of Tuesday morning.
