Disney Stock Drops as Avatar 2 Flounders
Not the big splash the woke groomer company needed.
Go woke, go broke! Disney stock on its way to worst year since 1974 after 'Avatar' sequel fails to make up for string of flops
Stock price is down 45 percent after sequel can't live up to expectations
James Cameron said the film needed $2billion in sales to break even
The company is on pace for its worst stock market performance in 48 years
Disney+ has also struggled, losing $1.5billion in 2022 alone

Disney's stock price is down 45 percent and on track for the company's worst annual stock performance in nearly 50 years after a somewhat tepid opening for the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water.
The House of Mouse - which is already planning to freeze hiring and cut some jobs - has seen disappointing results beyond the James Cameron film - in streaming services Disney+ and other 'woke' flop films like Strange World and Lightyear.
Avatar: The Way Of Water made $434.5million at the box office during its global debut, according to studio estimates Sunday, after director James Cameron said it needs to earn $2billion to break even.
While the numbers aren't a flop, they're still behind the company's stock price dropping nearly eight percent and putting it on course for its worst finish since 1974.

Disney was shooting for $500million worldwide, according to Forbes, which has caused a down reaction to the box office results.
It has been a troubling year for Disney, with Disney+ losing money despite increasing subscribers. The streamer lost $1.5billion in 2022, up from $630million in 2021.
Chris Gore said the movie is deeply flawed but recommended it heartily, saying that at least it had old-fashioned values and was pro-family. Critical Drinker gave it a non-recommendation, praising the technical skill of the film and design of the alien world as well as the action scenes and the first hour and last hour, but saying the middle part is ninety minutes of absolute dead air. He says Cameron sticks a deathly-boring Alien Teen Drama into the middle of the movie, and it's all the more cringey because the 70-year-old Cameron has no idea what a modern teenager might sound like. (Even one on an alien planet.) Although he says "at least it's not a cookie-cutter formulaic Marvel movie," he can't quite recommend it just for that.
I hear that if you see it, you should only see it on a premium 3D screen, because it's another Medium Is the Message movie. It's another technical triumph. And you're not going for the story here, people.
And I guess you could leave during the ninety minute Alien Teen Drama -- when they leave their original home to go to the watery world, and all the kids learn to fit in and have stupid teen romances and stuff -- to have a few drinks, and then come back for the big finale.
