NBC Projects GOP Will Win the House
Surprise! FBI Official In Charge of January 6th and Whitmer Fednapping Investigations Announces Retirement
Mike Sington
@MikeSington
NBC News projects the Republicans win the House, barely.
Republicans: 219 congressional seats
Democrats: 216 congressional seats
So that projection didn't prompt the next story -- but, of course, it has been predicted for weeks that the GOP would take the House.
And that means it's time for FBI agents who do not want to answer questions to quit the Bureau. Remember, civil servants working for the government must appear before Congress. It's part of their job.
If they quit, they can appear voluntarily or refuse to appear. If they refuse, they can be subpoenaed.
But they can fight a subpoena.
And unlike the case with Trump-associated personnel, DC judges will be very favorably disposed towards claims that Democrat-aligned government officials have every right to contest a Republican subpoena.
Worse comes to worse, they can invoke Executive Privilege spuriously or the Fifth Amendment, legitimately.
Anyway, like Anthony Fauci, Steven D'Atuono will retire before Republicans take power.
Steven D'Antuono, the FBI agent in charge of the investigations into both the Gov. Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, is set to retire at the end of the month, just weeks before the Republican Party is projected to take the House and likely apply increased scrutiny to those probes.
An internal FBI memo, written by FBI Director Chris Wray and circulated on social media, revealed that D'Antuono will be retiring at the end of the month from his role as assistant director of the bureau's Washington field office, to be replaced by Agent David Sundberg.
D'Antuono was in charge of the Detroit office when they were running the Whitmer Fednapping op, and then he was promoted to run the DC office when they were running the J6 op.
And he's not going to answer anyone's questions about what he did and why he did it.
Shut Up, Insurrectionist.
