Reports: Musk Has Informed Twitter's Board That He Will Proceed With the Sale At the Original Negotiated Price of $54.20 Per Share For a Total Sale Price of $44 Billion
A lot of reports claiming this, and Musk, who is rarely silent, is not knocking the reports down.
Which sounds a lot like confirmation.
Ugh.
Why do I say ugh?
I did want Musk to buy Twitter.
But I've come to like him and his zany impulsive possibly-hyperactive ways. I liked that he was offended by Twitter's censorship of dissenting viewpoints -- and decided, nearly on a whim, to offer $44 billion of his own money (mostly) to do something about it.
I don't like some of his Trumpian lack-of-discipline and addiction to Twitter -- don't get high on your own supply, Elon! You just get yourself into trouble (like Trump)! -- but I suppose without those things, none of this ever could have happened. You can't have the jackpot without the gambler.
I did want him to buy Twitter -- but only after Twitter came begging to him, offering a nice ten billion discount. Which still would have resulted in the company being overpriced, but at least Musk could have felt satisfied he knocked something off the top.
Here is what I'm going to hate now:
The corporate cons are going to say, "See, what did we tell you? You don't need to do anything about leftwing corporate leviathan monopolies colluding with the F***ING GOVERNMENT and ITS LAW ENFORCEMENT AND NATIONAL SECURITY APARATUS to squelch speech, it can all work itself out if we let the Magic of the Free Market work its wondrous spell!"
Right right right right.
So as regards FaceBook's and Google's ongoing conspiracy with the leftwing government of the United States to deprive American citizens of the their First -- and, what's that now, their Fourth Amendment rights as well (letting the FBI have little sneaky-peak at your mail without a warrant) -- I guess we'll just wait for the next Real-Life Tony Stark with a spare $1 trillion to spend on a tech company (FaceBook and Google are much, much more expensive than Twitter) and a crusading interest in vindicating free speech rights to come along then, huh?
Is that what we'll do, huh? We'll just wait for the next real-life Tony Stark to take money out of his Building Rockets to Go to Mars fund to shift it over to his Drop a Trillion Dollars to Buy One of the Largest Corporations to Ever Exist In History Just to Be Able to Speak Freely on Social Media fund, huh?
How many of those do you think we have floating around, Conservative, Inc.? Got an estimate of how many of those are waiting in the wings, AEI?
And I seem to notice most of the billionaires are in fact extremely leftwing and favor increased social control by a consortium of government, mega-corporations, and wealthy organizations like the WEF. Very few of them are right-aligned or libertarian.
So should we just wait to see how the Battle of Billionaires shakes out? Should we all just pray?
Meanwhile, people are losing followers like crazy. A friend says, "Twitter is finally getting rid of the bots because Musk is coming in and they don't have to cook the books to inflate their user numbers for investors any longer."
Exit Question: Did he move just to complete the transfer of regime before the elections?
I doubt it but if he did, wow. The trial was set to start in a couple of weeks so that is the more likely triggering event.
Still... He could have taken it up to the eve of the trial.
