First-World Problems...
One of the joys of being slightly in excess of 29-years-old is the joy of thinking of something new, when the reality is that I have undoubtedly written about this particular First-World Problem before and I simply forgot!
Once more unto the breach, dear friends!
Actually, I do remember writing about the control over the world and our shoes exerted by Big Lace, and the inability of modern technology to solve this most mundane of problems. But I broke a lace today and it irritated me so much that I want to revisit it and beat the topic to death.
Seriously...there is a huge industry devoted to the manufacture of absolutely incredible varieties of rope and line, used for thousands of things. The idea that one of those companies hasn't devised the perfect shoe lace beggars belief. Clearly they were bought off by the mandarins who control the shoe lace industry, because how else can they make their billions if not by building into every shoe an accessory designed to fail at the most inopportune moment.
Although...it is entirely possible that my lacing technique is causing undue wear, and I am at least partially responsible for this catastrophe. Maybe lacing from the top down would work?
