"You're a F****** Plague:" Americans Have Been Relocating to Mexico City, and Mexicans No Son Contentes About It
Go back to where you came from, Joshua!
So does this mean that it's kind of reasonable for people to be aggravated and annoyed at large numbers of foreign born people who don't speak the language and don't share the culture moving into their cities and taking up their resources?
Or not?
Not, right?
Like it's only bad if Americans, and specifically white Americans, complain, right?
For reasons?
Mexico City residents aren't happy with Americans that have moved to their city and made things more expensive, demanding they leave, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.
A growing number of Americans from areas like Silicon Valley and Brooklyn, New York, have flocked to the city, taking advantage of its beauty and cheap rent, according to the LA Times.
San Franciscans and Brooklynites?
Yeah I can see the problem.
No envian son mejor. ("They're not sending their best.")
Sorry, I'm trying to teach myself Spanish, and it helps to try to actually use it.
The issue is expected to worsen with rising inflation as more Americans look for affordable alternatives.
"We're the only brown people. We're the only people speaking Spanish except the waiters," writer and university professor Fernando Bustos Gorozpe, 28, said, according to the LA Times.
LOL. If you only knew how often Americans complain "I feel like I have to call my family to talk to someone who speaks English..."
...
There are 1,600,000 U.S. citizens living in Mexico, a leading destination for U.S. travelers going abroad, according to the State Department. Americans are permitted to stay in Mexico for up to six months, according to the Mexican government.
Oh wait, there's a legal limit?
Wow, what a concept.
...
A local group recently hosted a "places we have lost to gentrification, touristification and forced displacement" walking tour of Mexico City, according to the LA Times.
Would you say you feel "pushed out" by the new arrivals?
"Our homes now house digital nomads," a flier for the event read, according to the LA Times.
Holy shit, that's racist.
Posters reading "New to the city? Working remotely? You're a f--ing plague and the locals f--ing hate you. Leave." were also recently posted around the city, the LA Times reported.
A plague ? Now we're a disease? Vermin?
I can't even right now.
Somewhere in Mexico, there's a bronze man saying:
They're coming down here, with their money and their arrogance and their soy chai lattes and their pronouns.
And some, I assume, are good people.
