New York Man Stabs Fellow Subway Rider -- Because The Other Subway Rider Had Been Harassing People on the Subway, Screaming At Them

If you don't like the cops, you're really not going to like vigilantism.

Vigilantes aren't trained and also aren't enforcing an agreed-to law. They're enforcing a personal idea of what order should be.

And they don't have a rulebook of what kinds of violence are appropriate in different kinds of enforcement situations.

A straphanger stabbed another man who had been harassing passengers on a Brooklyn train over the weekend, authorities said.

The 25-year-old harasser was pestering and screaming at people on a southbound No. 2 train approaching the Sterling Street station in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens around 9:45 p.m. Sunday when the male rider intervened to stop him, sparking an argument, cops said.

The scuffle turned physical when the straphanger stabbed the crazed rider in the head and torso with an "unknown object," cops said.

We need common sense unknown object control.

The wounded man is hospitalized in stable condition. Doctors say he's receiving regular courses of Think About What You Did.

I'll have to hear from the other subway riders before rendering judgment. If I find out the man who was stabbed was really aggressively harassing, I say, as far as the vigilante: Not guilty.

If I was his superior officer in a war movie: "I don't know whether to court martial you or put you up for a medal!"

When there are no state-provided peace officers, people will deputize themselves to keep the peace. People enforced their own law and peace before organized state-provided police forces, and people will enforce their own law and peace after the state-provided police forces withdraw to bunker up in their precinct houses.

It worked for 300,000 years, in a bloody, brutal way, and it will work again.

Don't worry; you'll never hear about this story again. The subway vigilante in question is black.

But you'll hear about other vigilantes, that's for certain.
