The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
Mayor Adams is a clown, but he is a slicker clown than de Blasio, and he has the huge advantage of being an ex cop (my guess is that he was a political hack) and black, so that gives him a sort of cachet that protects him from the obvious...it is his party that gutted NYC's justifiably excellent anti-crime programs. "Stop and Frisk," "broken Windows Theory," and just plain old hard work by the cops, with backing from the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations made NYC the safest large city in the country.
But all good things must come to an end, especially at the hands of Democrats, or in NYC's case, socialists. de Blasio began a trend of decriminalization, handcuffing the police with conspicuous lack of support, ending the hugely successful programs that made New York City a real pleasure. It was amazingly safe, amazingly clean, and before Bloomberg began his awful program of Disney-fying the city it was even a lot of fun.
Shockingly (to nobody with two synapses to rub together), if a city doesn't aggressively pursue criminals, arrest them, charge them, try them, convict them, and then incarcerate them...crime returns!
Adams can obfuscate all he wants, but eliminating bail, dropping all but the most trivial charges, restricting the police to being essentially cigar store indians...standing around and not doing much else lest they be accused of racism/brutality/misgendering, gets you exactly what we have today in NYC. It is his party...his political philosophy...his insane progressive agenda that has created these conditions.
Adams calls NYC's criminal justice system 'laughingstock of our entire country'
Mayor Eric Adams lashed out at prosecutors and judges Monday for cutting loose suspected shooters to unleash more gunfire on the Big Apple’s streets — saying the “bad guys no longer take them seriously.”
The clearly frustrated mayor also fumed that soft-on-crime policies were turning the city’s criminal justice system into “a laughingstock of our entire country.”
He can pass the buck all he wants, but until he goes toe-to-toe with the DAs, calls out judges by name, empowers the police to go after the bad guys without fear of political and legal retribution, New York City will continue this miserable spiral down into the misery of the 1970s and 1980s.
And it gets better!
"People no longer believe that you can't do a shooting in the city," he fumed.
Interestingly, the mayor seems to be suggesting that it isn't guns that do the shooting! Could it be that he is recognizing, even inadvertently, that it is the lack of enforcement of gun laws that creates the conditions for murder and mayhem?
Nah...my bet is that he will come charging out in a few weeks with some draconian and ineffective policy to restrict the rights of the law-abiding citizens of NYC, while simultaneously doing absolutely nothing to combat the real problem: progressive DAs, prosecutors and judges who care not a whit about the quality of life in NYC, and want only to continue its slide into socialist hell.
