I was on to these girls last year because, as you all know, I'm Super-Hip and really in touch with what the kids these days are into.
They released a new single and I've been listening to their album a lot, especially this, their first single. My neighbors can vouch for this. There might be some documentation at the police station.
They're a bit like the Breeders, with a bit of the Strokes mixed in, and I think a little Violent Femmes.
Actually that song reminds me of the Georgia Satellites, of all bands -- the way it's technically dirty but it's so silly that it doesn't come off as dirty, just silly. Plus it being driven by one main guitar riff.
So you may have two questions: Can they play? And are they hot?
Yes and yes.
Okay the blonde tanks the second part of the guitar riff early on but she gets it right the rest of the time. And the brunette can barely be heard singing, because the crowd sings the whole song, but that's not their fault.
Supermarket is a good song and an interesting cultural artifact: a lockdown song. They wrote it when England announced they were coming out of their (first) lockdown. They imagined that getting to go to the supermarket would be the most amazing and romantic adventure ever.
