The Morning Rant: KBJ’s Supreme Court Nomination & The Famous GOP Lie, “If We Only Had Another Republican Senator”

We are about to see the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson, who believes the true victims of child p-rn are the adults arrested for trafficking in it.

NeverTrump faux-conservatives have started promoting the notion that if only Trump hadn’t cost the Republicans two Senate seats in Georgia, Republicans could deny KBJ’s confirmation.

The GOP has 50 Senate seats, and so do the Democrats, therefore the Democrats’ 50 votes, plus Kamala’s tie-breaking vote, gives the Democrats the 51 votes necessary for confirmation. [I’m aware of the Constitutional debate as to whether the VP can break ties on judicial confirmation votes. - Buck]

If we only had two more Republican senators from Georgia…

This is where it’s all a big fraud. It doesn’t matter how many GOP senators there are. As many as is needed will always peel away to confirm a Democrat president’s Supreme Court nominees. If the GOP had 60 senators right now, we would need 61, because at least 11 would peel away and vote to confirm KBJ. And if we had 61 senators, we would need 62. And then the National Republican Senatorial Committee would still beg for more money, promising that just one or two more GOP senators could have blocked the confirmation.

I can quickly name you plenty of Republican senators who won’t admit it, but they actually support KBJ, some enthusiastically. They want her on the Supreme Court, but will vote “No” because their votes aren’t needed, so why rile up the voters back home. But if the GOP had a huge majority right now, senators such as Cornyn, Cassidy, Sasse, Thune, Burr, and plenty of others would have no trouble voting “Yes” if that’s what it took to get KBJ and her radical agenda on the court.

And now, just for fun, let’s circle back to those lost Georgia Senate seats.

Kelly Loeffler is married to a Wall Street billionaire who is also CEO of the company that owns the New York Stock Exchange. Loeffler and her husband used their wealth to successfully, ahem, “lobby” for her to be appointed to fill the US Senate seat vacated by Johnny Isakson in 2019. Donald Trump and the MAGA base wanted to see Rep. Doug Collins get that appointment instead.

Already unpopular with the populist base in Georgia, Loeffler then showed her financial “acumen” by engaging in a massive sale of stock holdings in the weeks prior to the March 2020 Covid lockdowns, or to be more specific, right before the stock market crashed.

The whole thing stunk, causing her to become even more unpopular with working class Georgia Republicans.

Her Senate appointment was only effective until a special election could be held to fill out the final two years of Isakson’s 6-year term. That special election in November 2020 resulted in a runoff election, which she lost to Democrat Raphael Warnock.

NeverTrump “conservatives” were thrilled to see the Democrats win the Senate seat, of course. Even better, it gave them the chance to sneer at MAGA voters for not turning out to support Ms. Loeffler at the polls, costing Republicans the Senate majority.

And now the faux-conservatives are still snarking, trying to blame MAGA voters in Georgia for KBJ getting on the court, as if Loeffler being in the Senate would make any difference.

Well guess what, that Senate seat is back on the ballot again in 2022, this time for a full 6-year term. And this time there will likely be a MAGA hero, Herschel Walker, running as the Republican candidate against Warnock.

So to ensure that there will be a Georgia Republican voting against Biden’s court appointees in 2023 and 2024, can we expect Conservative, Inc. to join MAGA and support Herschel’s effort to replace Warnock in the Senate?

I jest. Conservative, Inc. is already doing everything it can to destroy Herschel’s campaign and his reputation. Their rules are that Deplorables must always vote for RINO/Wall Street Republicans such as Loeffler, but the Republican establishment will never, ever reciprocate by supporting a populist, America-first Republican such as Herschel.

Frankly, if Loeffler were in the Senate, there would be no difference in Biden getting his radical nominees appointed. But because she lost in 2020, conservative Georgians don’t have to hold their nose and vote for her in 2022. Instead, they can vote for Herschel Walker, who will represent Georgia rather than Wall Street in the US Senate.
