Saturday Gardening, Puttering and Outdoor Adventure Thread, Feb. 12
Happy Valentine's Day Weekend! Got anything going in the garden? Outdoors? Indoors?
Edible Gardening
Last week, there was some discussion of Cherry tomatoes in the comments. Have you decided what kind you will grow this year?
Brad's Atomic Grape
The tomato above has wispy foliage, which suggests that it could be related to some of the larger oxheart tomatoes.
And what would Valentines be without an exotic fruit? Here's one from Neal in Israel, the Pitanga, Surinam Cherry or Cayenne Cherry. It is related to some other common garden shrubs (in some climates). The fruit looks very juicy when ripe. Ever tasted it? They are very high in vitamin C, and have pro-vitamin A, too.
Wildflowers
My mom took this photo yesterday in the Negev Desert in Israel. It's "kalaniot" season. Israelis drive down to the desert in the winter to experience these magnificent scenes of Israel's national flower.
Beautiful. Wild anemones. I didn't know.
The rest of last week's trip to Zion
You could write a little Tony Hillerman style story based on one of these images. Or maybe some science fiction.
As the ladies left their sleepover, balloons landed in the neighborhood.

From willow's apprentice:
These photos are just gorgeous and wanted to share. Thought maybe it would be a good one to link from the garden thread.
They are wonderful. Here's a happy family of Great Egrets:
Update
Left for lunch after posting, and I think it was a Great Egret that I saw flying away from our second lot in a slow, magnificent manner. We get Snowy Egrets in town, but the bigger birds usually stay away from houses.
It is warmer than average here today. Some of the flowering pears are starting to bloom in town. There are two different species planted along the streets, and they bloom at different times. The gazanias are blooming along the streets, too.
Our scarlet sage is blooming. Need to cut back the tropical milkweed. It got frosted. Also need to finish rooting out the annual nettle before it sets seed.
We would love to see what you have going on. If you would like to send information and/or photos for the Saturday Gardening Thread, the address is:
