Marching To ONT, Beautiful, Beautiful ONT; We're Marching Upward To ONT, The Beautiful City Of COBs

The calendar on the wall says December 30, We're almost done with this cursed year. Be warned, you only have one more day to get that last stamp on your loyalty card.

History Minute

The Execution of Private John Lanahan, 46th Pennsylvania

He shot his commanding officer while drunk. A small story in the much larger tableau that was the Civil War Between the States, but a compelling one.

When You're Taking Flack, You're Over The Target

Jesse Kelly Continues To Annoy All The Right People

“Oh, there’s no question, Tucker," Kelly replied. He then pointed out that China and Russia have developed hypersonic missiles that can “turn New York City to ash,” while Russia has satellites “that can push our satellites out of orbit and cripple our military.”

“Our military, though, they’re focused on the important things,” Kelly continued. “We want to focus on climate change, and we definitely have to make sure there are enough tampons in the restrooms at the Pentagon.”

Jesse went on to say that what we need is a military full of men who “want to sit on a throne of Chinese skulls.”

The blue check brigade was scandalized.

Musical Interlude

One of my favorite pieces of music. Mournful and melancholy, it somehow still manages to weave faint threads of hope through its musical tapestry. I'm not ashamed to admit that it sometimes brings actual tears to my eyes.

Don't Let The Left Obfuscate The Truth

There's No Denying the Socialist Roots of Fascism

Gentile went so far as to declare “Fascism is a form of socialism, in fact, it is its most viable form.” One of the most common reflections on this is that fascism is itself socialism based on national identity.

Gentile believed that all private action should be oriented to serve society. He was against individualism, for him there was no distinction between private and public interest. In his economic postulates, he defended compulsory state corporatism, wanting to impose an autarkic state (basically the same recipe that Hitler would use years later).

A basic aspect of Gentile’s logic is that liberal democracy was harmful because it was focused on the individual which led to selfishness. He defended “true democracy” in which the individual should be subordinated to the State. In that sense, he promoted planned economies in which it was the government that determined what, how much, and how to produce.

So called “anti-fascist” groups try to don the mantle of being the “good guys” because they are “fighting fascism”. A few observations. First, they know nothing of what fascism is. I've seen any number of leftists condemning those advocating for smaller government, individual rights and greater liberty as “fascist”. This makes about as much sense as demonizing pro-life people for supporting infanticide. Second, they most often support some flavor of communism, which is a competing leftist ideology, not an opposing one. Antifa was started by commies back in the 30s. Third, when they do manage to stumble across something that actually does resemble fascism, such as collusion between corporations and the state, they propose solving the problem by having the state take over private industry which ultimately becomes a distinction with a difference, except that it is probably less efficient (remember both ideologies are leftist ones, which means they are concerned with sublimating the individual to the state, they're squabbling over the most efficient way to do that).

Finally, what we are seeing today does have many of the hallmarks of fascism, but it's a weird sort of reverse fascism. Instead of the state suborning corporations to its interest, we are seeing corporations sublimating the state to theirs. I'm not sure what to call it, corporatism, I suppose, although this is a much more virulent strain than what we've seen in the past.

Related: I do wonder if anyone will ever be able to unify and motivate the overlapping area on this Venn diagram. I suspect not. I think it is possible to get a lot of folks on the left and right to agree on the common problem, but each side's proposed solution is anathema to the other side.

Thursday Quiz: How Do You Make An X?

x marks the spot colored first.jpg

The colored line is the first stroke of the pen, the black the second. I'm a 7.

All.....Most.....Got.....It....

Click through and read the whole thing. She's absolutely baffled that all of these “good” leftist policies are having such bad results. She isn't red-pilled, not by a long shot, but maybe she is starting to notice that there is a red pill.

Sub-Headline Of The Week

Archaeologists discover a gruesome tower of skulls in Mexico City

I know the article is several years old, but the sub-headline remains a thing of beauty, right up there with the Weekly World News' “Giant statue of Elvis found on Mars”.

Who's Going To Drive You Home Tonight?

Say pupper, you can't go on, thinking, nothing's wrong.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by the M3

m3.jpg

It's actually quite simple. Naming convention at the time was to name successive weapons in a class as “M(ark)1”, followed by “M2”, “M3” and so forth. Thus you had the M3 (Stuart) light tank, successor to the M2(no nickname that I can recall, Anna Puma can probably fill us in), The M3 (called “Lee” with the American turret, “Grant” with the British) medium tank, followed by the M4 (Sherman). An M3 scout car was simply the third production class of scout cars, just as the Stuarts were the third production class of light tanks. Simple.
