Meet The Pet Morons

(Stumpy)

I'm a long-time lurker, with a long-ago pet posting.

Today I took my six-month old "special kitty", Beavis (I'm Butthead) to
the vet, as his hind leg partial paralysis and lack of fine motor
control had gotten much worse over the last week. I'm writing this
through tears, as Beavis was never going to get better, and probably
much worse if nothing was done. Beavis was laid to rest this morning in
a quiet place in the Desatoya Mountains of Nevada, wrapped in his
Christmas Sloth security blanket. He was a beautiful and quiet kitty,
and is now at peace. Beavis had wonderful Turkish Van colors, cream and
tan, and incredibly silky fur.

He is survived by his two older adopted step-siblings, Ren and Stumpy.
Stumpy is tuxedo color, missing 2/3 of his tail (genetics), and Ren is
grey/black/white striped who has a kink in the last two inches of his
tail. Other than their mis-formed tails, Ren and Stumpy are fat and
happy cats, making laps of the inside of the camper, and lifting the
floor vents searching for hidden treasures therein.

There are many fine words to say about pets and their caretakers, and
the Pet Morons has included many excellent quotes over the years that
I've been following. Thank you for taking this submission, and as
always, looking forward to my weekly dose of Pet Morons, and AoS in general.

Wandering Neurons

From the obituary it is easy to tell that Beavis was much loved by his human. So sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy to lose of these creatures.

Howdy! That Deplorable SOB Van Owen here.

As you may know we lost our beloved Layla (who was featured a time or two on the Pet Thread) in July. She had a good life and far outlived expectations, given her medical problems. It turns out Mrs. SOB and I could not stand not having a dog to share our lives. So, after a surprisingly short search, we found Bailey at a local Rescue, just transferred from a high kill shelter in TX.

Bailey is definitely her own dog -- so vocal that I'd swear she was part Siberian Husky (she's not). She loves her squeaky toys, and demands that you watch her while she plays. I probably should have re-named her Hilts, after Steve McQueen's character in The Great Escape -- she can find the weak spot in a fence with unerring skill. I feel like a camp guard trying to stay ahead of her tunneling. She always comes back, though, at least so far. She bays like a Bloodhound when she catches the scent of a deer, and will just about jerk you off your feet if she hits a trail while on the leash.

We will always miss Layla, who was that one special dog that you might, if you are very lucky, have in your lifetime. But Bailey has filled that empty place in our hearts.

TDSOBVO

You never forget the loved fur babies, but we are happy to hear you have found a new one to bring more joy into your lives. We hope she gives you years of joy. Thanks for sharing your new addition.

Sarge Cartoon (1).jpg

Here are two pictures of our late Mr. Sarge (Ch. Soyara's Ace of Spades). The first is of Kentucky artist John Thomas Berry posing with a charcoal portrait he did of Sarge after seeing him at a show in Lexington. Needless to say, the picture now adorns our living room. The second is a caricature drawn by the famous canine cartoonist Mike McCartney of McCartney's Dogs (https://mccartneysdogs.com). Mike has done many drawings of our dogs, always capturing their inner spirit in an amusing way.

Hadrian the Seventh

Your dogs are gorgeous and it is very nice to see them displayed in art. Thanks for sharing these with us today.

This is Armond suffering mightily. - Steve

How dare you submit a photo of your abused dog? You're lucky we don't know where you are from or we would be over there to rescue that pup. Cute photo. Thank you.

Dear AofS Pet Thread,

I read AofS regularly although I comment sparingly (once or twice several years ago as “QuietOneInNYC.” I’ve left there, thankfully, and want to give my boy Astro his proper tribute among the amazing animals that are posted on this thread.

I had him for nearly 16 years, of which many were filled with change and big challenges. He was an Alpha dog, and very, very smart, annoyingly difficult, and argumentative as heck, but through it all he made me a better person, and I think I made him better. I feel I go the better part of that bargain.

From being returned 2x before I adopted him, including surviving a drowning attempt during those times, he was my companion who kept me sane, and happy. The end was awful, but at least I got to hold him on the way out. That said, it was time. I still feel his presence, and from time to time, see him out of the corner of my eye. It makes me feel he’s still got his protective eye on me and it feels wonderful.

I’ve got a new dog now, equally remarkable, which I never thought would happen. They couldn’t be more different. And that’s just fine with me. Here are some pictures of my lovely boy Astro. I think you can see the power and intelligence even now in his pictures. Enjoy. I’ll send pics and the story of my current dog another time.

QuietOneInNYC

First dogs are very profound. Your life completely changes forever. That said, it was awesome he was with you so long. You sent in so many photos I couldn't choose just one which is the norm. Thank you so much for sharing today. Look forward to Doggeh #2 photos.

These parakeets apparently escaped from some place in my neighborhood. My next door neighbor went to the pet store and got food especially for them. They seem to have attached themselves to a local flock of sparrows and show up almost every day. I’m told they cannot survive our Maryland winter so I expect we won’t be treated to their colorful presence once we start getting frost. Until then we’ll enjoy them- unless you or one of the morons have any tips on how we can get them indoors.

Call me mongo, please.

P.S. maybe this belongs in the pet thread, as I assume they were someone’s pet before escaping.

Beautiful birds. Hopefully someone comes along and rescues them before Old Man Winter hits or Mother Nature strikes out. We appreciate your contribution today.

1 Maizie.jpg

Good afternoon, MisHum….

I used to send you pictures of our super cool cat, Dexter, but alas, he went missing a year ago July, and the house has been empty. Now, finally, after 9 years of doglessness, one has joined the family. Miss Maizie is a 16 month old full English Golden Retriever and we have had her 5 weeks now. How she came to us was truly a God-thing, but I won’t bore the morons with the details. Original owners got her as a Covid puppy, but didn’t want the Covid dog and kept her in a kennel 20 hours a day. She obviously had been mistreated by the male in the house, whose job it must have been to corner, catch, kennel and muzzle her, judging by her behavior. The first couple weeks were a little rough on her, she had had 4 homes (including the jerks who had her originally and us) in 4 months. Very subdued and afraid of my husband; but time does have a way of working many things out, and she is out of her shell, such a sweet soul and a great, great dog, even lets the hubby collar and leash her up for their morning constitutional! She just needs some help socializing with other people and dogs without going nuts wanting to play (she is getting better!). She loves being outside and rolling in the grass. Can’t wait til next summer to take her boating.

Love the thread. (Think I’m now known as “Joe’s Left Foot” on AoS.)

Sorry to hear about Dexter but congrats on your new addition of Maizie. It always baffles me how people can abuse such innocents. Glad she has a new home.

Hi,
Long time lurker, been poking around since '01. Dont have any pets of my own due to work, so I live vicariously through my neighbourhood moggies. Met quite a few, including a tubby ginger and absolutely stunning Bengal, but my favourite is this little panther. The friendliest cat you will ever meet, no question. Will cross the road to greet you with head bunts and belly rolls. I always make sure to go past her house whenever I am nearby. - Lurker

Well thank you for lurking for so long. It's too bad that you can't have your own pet. You sound like you would be a wonderful pet parent.

Luna pig (1).jpg

Mis Hum. Thanks as always for the pet thread. It is an island of hope and joy in an often discouraging world.

I post occasionally as Art Rondelet of Malmsey. In September we adopted Luna from a nearby rescue after being pet-less for many years. What a home run! She is a beautiful, intelligent, affectionate girl who loves playing fetch and riding the the car. She is 4 years old and has almost no bad habits although she doesn't like other dogs much. Her absolute favorite toy is a squeaky pig that grunts instead of squeaks. She will chew on it and chase it until she exhausts herself unless we hide it from her. The pic is her parading around with her beloved piggy

How wonderful that you hit a home run with Luna. She looks adorable parading with her toy. And thank you for your kind words. Hope you have many happy years with Luna.

The In-Box was overflowing this week. Thank you folks. We didn't get to all of your pets but be patient. We will.

If you have something pet/animal related you would like to submit you can contact us here at petmorons at gmail dot com.

God willing and the creeks don't rise, we will be back next Saturday. Have a great week!
