CNN Permanent Guest Emeritus Sentenced to 2 1/2 Years in Prison for Extorting Nike
That sentence is very short, considering that prosecutors sought 11 to 14 years.
I thought he'd get a longer sentence, because the one thing that lawyers and judges will punish other members of the guild for is defrauding clients, because it threatens their own careers.
You can frame innocent men all you like -- but defraud a paying client, or extort someone you're trying to pressure into pretending they're your client, and now you're threatening everyone else's hustle.
But no, CNN Permanent Guest Emeritus Michael Avenatti got something closer to the Kevin Clinesmith deal.
The Guild of Leftwingers has more solidarity than the guild of lawyers.
Fellas, I've been delaying this post, hoping that video of Avenatti crying would come out, but no joy yet.
Here are some quotes from those present in the courtroom:

Michael Avenatti is crying in the courtroom during his speech before sentencing.

"TV and twitter, your honor, mean nothing." -- Michael Avenatti at his sentencing
I think that is probably in response to the judge saying he'd gotten "drunk" on the power he felt from his CNN appearances and from his twitter feed.
By the way, rumor has it that leftwing DC women were lining up to s*** his d***.
Reporters, bloggers, legislative aides. All throwing themselves at Avenatti like he was Jimmy Page in 1971 and they were hoping to get a ride on Led Zeppelin's private 747.
I think a lot of leftwing women are going to "forget" him when they count up how many people they slept with.

Avenatti is crying, thanking his family for standing by him. "I and I alone have destroyed my career, my relationships, my life, and there is no doubt that I deserve to pay, have paid, and will pay a further price for what I have done."
The judge has already said he calculates the sentencing guidelines for Avenatti at somewhere between 9 and 11 years. The judge is now recounting the factual history of the Nike shakedown
Usually not a great sign for a defendant when a federal judge keeps quoting him saying "I'm not fucking around."
Judge: "Mr. Avenatti's conduct was outrageous. He hijacked his clients' claims and he used those claims to further his own agenda which was to extort millions of dollars from Nike for himself."
"Mr Avenatti," the judge continued, "had become drunk on the power of his platform or what he perceived the power of his platform to be. He had become someone who operated as if the laws and rules which apply to everyone else didn’t apply to him."
Judge hammers lawyer Mark Geragos, and implicitly rebukes Justice Dept for not charging him. Geragos, the judge said, "suffered no consequences as a result of his conduct and he was a central figure in the criminal conduct."
Wow. Judge drastically departs downwardly to give Avenatti about three years in prison on this case, saying "It would not be justice for Mr. Avenatti to be sentenced to a 9 to 11 year term of imprisonment when Mr. Geragos was not even charged."
A potential 9 year prison sentence for Avenatti was reduced to 2.5 - the kind of sentencing break usually reserved for those who flip and provide evidence against others. Judge clearly greatly displeased that Geragos walked away from the case scot-free...
And, let's face it, protecting the members of the Inner Party.
Gee, why wasn't Mark Geragos, attorney for Bill Clinton co-conspirator Susan MacDougal, who somehow managed to get a pardon for her from her co-conspirator Clinton, charged by the Justice Department?!
It's all so mystifying!
Below, Avenatti stands by as his lawyer delivers a short statement to the public about the "draconian" Friends-and-Family sentence handed down to Avenatti. Alas, he's not crying.
The memories of Avenatti partying down with CNN, after putting his d*** inside so many CNN producers and newsreaders that his wang is now eligible to pay property tax in Atlanta.
